Right forms of verbs ব্লকত Grammar এর যকান আলাদা শাখা যনই। কর্তপ topics যেমন- tense.

Rule-1:
Sentence-টির subject ের্দ 3rd person singular number হ এব্ং sentence-টি ের্দ present
Indefinite Tense এ োকক তাহকল verb শেষে s বা es শ াগ করষে হয়। যেমন:

• Jabir opens the windows everyday.


• The girl goes there.
Rule-2:
ের্দ Sentence-টির অেি universal truth, habitual fact, historical fact scientific truth
প্রকাশ ককর। তাহকল ঐ Sentence-টির present Indefinite Tense হ । যেমন:

• The sun rises in the East.


• Akbor ascends the throne at a very early age.
Rule-3:

সরাসর্র adverbial of time যনই এমন sentences-এ always, regularly, sometimes, often,
generally, daily, everyday, occasionally, usually, normally ইতযার্দ োকক Sentence-টির
present Indefinite Tense হ । যেমন:

• Jahin always disturbs the class.


• Farhan visits our family occasionally.
Rule-4:
যে sentence-এ Be verb যনই, তাকদরকক negative ব্া interrogative করকত হকল tense ও subject
অনুসাকর do, does, did ব্যব্হার করকত হ । যেমন:

• Aftab does not smoke.


• Did they attend the class yesterday?
Rule-5:

WH question এর যেকি WH word সমূহ- যেমন what, when, where, who, which, whose,
why, how ইতযার্দ োককল WH word এবং Subject এর মাষে Auxiliary verb ব্যব্হার করকত
হকব্। যেমন:

• Why did Monir laugh at me?


• Whom did you meet?
Rule-6:

বেত মাষে চলষে এমে শকাে কাজ বুোষে sentence-টির Present Continuous Tense হ ।
একেকি ব্তি মান সমক র (now, right now, at this moment, at this time, at this very
moment, today) উকেখ োকক। যেমন:

• Araf is working with Fatir right now.


• They are getting ready for the match at this moment.

Rule-7:
Sentence-এ ের্দ have, has, had বা having োকক তাহকল verb-এর Past Participle Form হ ।
যেমন:

• I have done the work.


• We have made him captain.
Rule-8:
Sentence এ just, just now, already, yet, ever, lately, recently, so far ইতযার্দ োককল
Present Perfect Tense হ । Affirmative sentence-এ already এবং Negative sentence-
এ yet ব্কস। যেমন:

• She has already come out of the cabin.


• Haven’t you done the work yet?
• He has gone out just now.
Rule-9:
অেীে নেষদত েক েব্দ ব্া phrase (yesterday, ago, long since, last night ব্া last + time ইতযার্দ)
োককল sentence টির Past tense হ । যেমন:

• I left my home last night.


• He saw me long ago.
Rule-10:
No sooner had …. than, scarcely had …. when, hardly had …. before োককল had ুক্ত
অংেটি Past Perfect Tense এবং পরবেী অংেটি Past Indefinite Tense এ হকব্। যেমন:

• No sooner had he seen the police than he ran away


Rule-11:
Since এর ১ম অংে present indefinite/ Present Perfect Tense হষল পকরর অংকশ Past
Indefinite Tense এ হ । যেমন:

• It is many years since I came to Cumilla.


• Many years have passed since his mother died.
Rule-12:
তকব্ Since এর ১ম অংে past indefinite হষল পকরর অংশ past perfect tense এ হ । যেমন:
• It is many years since I came to Cumilla.
• Many years have passed since his father died.
Rule-13:
একই দদর্ঘিয, পর্রমাণ ব্া স্থান ব্ুঝাকল subject শদখষে plural হষল ও verb singular হ । যেমন:

• Ten miles is a long way.


• 10 minutes is not enough for this job.
Rule-14:
যকান simple sentence-এ principal verb এর পর আকরকটি verb হকল পষরর verb এর সাষে –
ing শ াগ করষে হয় অেব্া verb টির পূষবত to বসাষে হয়। উকেখয, উকেশয ব্ুঝাকত verb টির পূকব্ি to
ব্সাকত হ । যেমন:

• I saw him going.


• I don’t want to leave this place.
Rule-15:

Had better, had rather, would better, would rather, let, must, need, dare, far
ইতযার্দ োককল verb এর base form হ এব্ং প্রদত্ত verb এর পূকব্ি to োককল উক্ত to উকে ো ।
যেমন:

• You had better go home.


• I will not let you enter the meeting room.
Rule-16:

Sentence এর শুরুকত would that োককল subject এর পর could হ এব্ং প্রদত্ত verb এর base
form হয়। যেমন:

• Would that I could go to college.


Rule-17:
To, be, being, having এর পর মূল verb এর Past Participle হ । যেমন:
He ran away having taken the money.
Rule-18:
যকান verb এর পূকব্ি mind, worth, past, cannot help, could not help, would you mind,
with a view to, look forward to, with an eye to, addicted to, confess to,
habituated to, accustomed to, subject to, object to, adverse to, be used to, get
used to, become used to এব্ং preposition োককল verb এর সাকে ing যোগ করকত হ ।
যেমন:

I went to library with a view to reading there.


Rule-19:
It is high time, it is time, wish, fancy ইতযার্দ োককল এর পকরর অংকশ Past Indefinite
Tense হ । যেমন:

• I fancy I turned pale.


• I wish I could sing.
Rule-20:
As though, as if, wish োককল to be verb র্হকসকব্ were ব্কস। যেমন:

• I wish I were a king.


• He talks as if he were a leader.
Rule-21:

As though/as if/since-এর ১ম অংে Present Indefinite Tense হষল পকরর অংশ Past
Indefinite Tense এ হ । র্কন্তু ১ম অংে Past Indefinite Tense হষল পকরর অংশ past perfect
হ । যেমন:

• He speaks as though he knew everything.


• She proceeded as though I had not spoken.
Rule-22:
Every, each, one of োককল verb এর singular হ । যেমন:
• One of the students was absent yesterday.

Rule-23:
Can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would ইতযার্দ modal auxiliary verb এর
পর মূল verb টির base form হ । যেমন:

• You may come tomorrow.


• I can do the work.
Rule-25:
Am, is, are, was, were ইতযার্দ to be verb এর passive voice এর যেকি verb এর Past
Participle হ । যেমন:

• The book was stolen from my table.


• The construction of the building has been completed.
Rule-26:
যকান কাি পূষবত শুরু হষয় এখে প তন্ত চলষে ব্ুঝাকল verb এর Present Continuous Tense হ ।
যেমন:
• I have been reading for three hours.
• The construction work has been going on since last year.
Rule-27:
যকান sentence এ ের্দ here/ there দ্বারা শুরু হয় এব্ং এর পর ের্দ singular number োকক
তাহকল here/ there এর পর singular verb ব্কস। একইভাকব্, plural number (noun/ pronoun)
োককল verb-টির plural হ । যেমন:

• There is a high school in our village.


• There are two high schools in our village.
Rule-28:
Lest েুক্ত sentence-এ lest এর পষর শ subject োষক তারপকর should/ might ব্কস। যেমন:
• He ran fast lest he should miss the train.
• Study more lest you should cut a sorry figure in the exam.
Rule-29:
While এর ঠিক পকর যে verb োকক োর সাষে ing শ াগ করকত হ । র্কন্তু while এর ঠিক পকর
subject োককল while এর অংশটি Past Continuous Tense (Sub + was/ were + v+ing)
হ । যেমন:

• While walking in the garden, he was bitten by a snake.


• While she was coming, I was sleeping.
Rule-30:
যকান sentence-এর verb তার subject এর number এব্ং person অনুো ী ব্যব্হৃত হ অেি াৎ
subject singular হষল verb singular হয় এবং subject plural হষল verb plural হ । যেমন:

• The colour of his eyes is blue.


• The players in the field are strong.

Subject-Verb Agreement

Subject অনুো ী verb-এর পর্রব্তি নকক subject-verb agreement. Subject-verb Agreement


সাধারণত number ও person এর উপর র্নভি র ককর। কারণ subject এর number ও person পর্রব্তি ন
করা হকল verb এর form পর্রব্তি ন হ ।
Rule-1:
সাধারণত একটি singular subject একটি singular verb গ্রহণ ককর। Singular verb এর সাকে –s
ব্া-es েুক্ত হ (Subject 3rd person হকল)। যেমন:

• He reads a book.
• She plays the piano well.
Rule-2:
র্ব্ষক র নাম, ব্ইক র নাম, যদকশর নাম যদখকত plural হকলও এর verb singular হকব্। যেমন:

• Economics is my favourite subjects.


• Arabian Nights is still a great favourite.
Rule-3:
The rest of the –এর পকর uncountable noun হকল verb-টি Singular হ । যেমন:
• The rest of the money is for the whole month.

নকন্তু The rest of the-এর পকর Countable noun হকল Noun এব্ং Verb উভ ই plural হ ।
যেমন:

• The rest of the students have not come today.


Rule-4:
And দ্বারা েুক্ত একার্ধক noun ের্দ দুটি আলাদা ব্যজক্ত ব্া ব্স্তু যব্াঝা তাহকল একদর verb টি plural
হকব্। যেমন:

• Aznan and Marha are two friends.


Rule-5:
And দ্বারা েুক্ত দুই ব্া তকতার্ধক singular noun এর প্রকতযকটির পূকব্ি Each, every ব্া no োককল
verb টি singular হ । যেমন:

• Each boy and each girl has got a price.


Rule-6:
And দ্বারা েুক্ত একার্ধক noun ের্দ যকব্ল একটিমাি ব্যজক্ত ব্া একটি মাি ভাব্ প্রকাশ ককর তাহকল
একদর verb টি singular হকব্। যেমন:

• Slow and steady wins the race.


• Name and fame is my goal.
Rule-7:
একই ব্যজক্ত দুইটি পদব্ীর অর্ধকারী হকল শুধুমাি প্রেম পদব্ীর পূকব্ি The ব্কস এব্ং verb টি singular
হ । তকব্, দুইটি পদব্ীর অর্ধকারী দুইিন ব্যজক্ত আলাদা আলাদা হকল দুইটির পূকব্ি the ব্কস এব্ং verb
টি plural হ । যেমন:

• The teacher and the secretary are coming to submit their proposals. (র্ভন্ন র্ভন্ন ব্যজক্ত-
Article দুইটি।)
• The teacher and secretary is coming to submit his proposal. (একই ব্যজক্ত-Article একটি)
Rule-8:
Ethics, politics, mathematics, physics, athletics, acoustic, hysterics প্রভৃ র্ত ের্দ subject
এর নাম ব্ুঝা তকব্ verb টি singular হকব্। যেমন:

• Mathematics is my favorite subject.


Rule-9:
Everyone, Everybody, Nobody, No one, Anybody, Anyone ইতযার্দ হকে singular এর পকর
singular verb ব্কস। যেমন:

• Everyone is going to attend today’s party.


Rule-10:
Adjective এর পূকব্ি the ব্সকল যতা plural common noun হ এব্ং verb টি plural হ । অেি াৎ
র্ন মটি হকে- The + adjective + plural verb. যেমন:

• The poor are not happy always.


Rule-11:

Along with, together with, as well as, accompanied with, with, and not, in addition to,
including র্দক েুক্ত একার্ধক noun/ pronoun এর যেকি পূকব্ির ব্া প্রেম noun/ pronoun
অনুো ী verb টি হকব্। অেি াৎ প্রেম noun/ pronoun টি singular হকল verb টি singular হকব্ এব্ং
প্রেম noun/ pronoun টি plural হকল verb টি plural হকব্। যেমন:

• Tandra and not I is considered to be guilty.


Rule-12:

Either ... or, Neither ... nor, not only ... but also ব্া শুধু or র্দক েুক্ত একার্ধক noun/
pronoun এর যেকি or, nor এব্ং but also এর পকর যে noun/ pronoun োকক তার number/
person অনুসাকর verb হ । অেি াৎ পরব্তী noun/ pronoun টি singular হকল verb টি singular
হকব্ এব্ং পরব্তী noun/ pronoun টি plural হকল verb টি plural হকব্। যেমন:

• Either John or his friends are going to join the party.


Rule-13:
Many a/ an এর পকর noun ও verb দুক াই singular হ ।
Many a/ an + singular common noun + singular verb। যেমন:

• Many a man is present in the meeting.


• Many a child has liked the gift.
Rule-14:
Preposition এর পূকব্ির subject টি plural হকল verb টি Plural এব্ং Preposition এর পূকব্ির
subject টি singular হকল verb টি singular হ । র্কন্তু একই sentences এ ের্দ একার্ধক noun এর
পূকব্ি একার্ধক preposition ব্যব্হৃত হ তকব্ একেকি প্রেম preposition এর পূকব্ি ব্যব্হৃত noun
অনুো ী verb হকব্। যেমন:
• The study of different languages is very interesting.
Rule-15:
One of, either of, neither of ের্দ subject র্হকসকব্ ব্যব্হৃত হ তাহকল এর verb টি singular হকব্।
অেি াৎ One of, either of, neither of, the + noun (plural) + verb (singular). যেমন:

• One of my friends is coming here today.


Rule-16:

ভগ্াংশ এক ব্যর্তত সকল ভগ্াংশ plural হক োকক। যেমন- One-third; র্কন্তু Two thirds, three-
fourths etc. ভগ্াংকশর প্রেম অংশটি one দ্বারা শুরু হকল নদ্বেীয় অংেটি singular + of + plural
countable noun/uncountable noun+ singular verb হ ।
আব্ার, ভগ্াংকশর প্রেম অংশটি two, three ইতযার্দ দ্বারা শুরু হকল নদ্বেীয় অংেটি plural+ of +
uncountable noun/singular noun + singular verb হ ।
র্কন্তু ভগ্াংকশর প্রেম অংশটি two, three ইতযার্দ দ্বারা শুরু হকল নদ্বেীয় অংেটি plural+ of +
uncountable noun/singular noun + singular verb োককল verb plural. যেমন:

• One-third of the work has been done.


• One-fourth of the students is absent today.
• Three-fourths of the work has been done.
• Two-thirds of the students are present today.
Rule-17:
Time, Distance, Weight, Length, Money একদর একককর সমষ্টি যদখকত plural হকলও এরা
singular verb গ্রহণ ককর এব্ং verb টি present Indefinite Tense এ হ । যেমন:

• 10 minutes is not a long duration.


Rule-18:
No/ None of the + singular noun + singular verb;
No/ None of the + plural noun + plural verb. যেমন:
• None of the students are present today.
• None of the student is present today.
Rule-19:

A lot of + singular noun + singular verb;


A lot of + plural noun +plural verb. যেমন:

• A lot of water is consumed.


• A lot of people are gathering there.
Rule-20:
Infinitive, Gerund, Clause েখন subject রূকপ কাি ককর তখন verb টি singular হকব্। যেমন:
Walking is good for health.
To walk is good for health.
That he is honest is known to all.
Rule-21:
It/ Who ের্দ subject র্হকসকব্ ব্যব্হৃত হ তকব্ এর পরব্তী verb টি singular হকব্। যেমন:
It is raining cats and dogs.
Rule-22:
Relative pronoun ের্দ subject র্হকসকব্ ব্যব্হৃত হ তকব্ এর পরব্তী verb টি ঐ Relative
pronoun এর Antecedent এর Number ও person অনুসাকর হক োকক। Relative pronoun এর
ঠিক পূবতবেী noun বা pronoun শক Antecedent বষল। যেমন:

• It is he who is to blame.
• It is you who are to do this.
Rule-23:
Mathematical calculations ের্দ word এ প্রকাশ করা হ , তখন subject টি singular verb গ্রহণ
ককর। যেমন:

• Five plus five is ten.


Rule-24:
A number of এর পর plural noun এব্ং plural verb ব্কস। র্কন্তু The number of এর পর plural
noun এব্ং singular verb ব্কস। যেমন:

• A number of students are absent from class today.


• The number of students absent today is twenty.
Rule-25:
More than one + singular noun সাধারণত singular verb গ্রহণ ককর। র্কন্তু more than two/
three ইতযার্দ plural verb গ্রহণ ককর। যেমন:
• More than one student is absent from the class.
• More than three students are absent from the class.
Rule-26:
Few/many+ plural noun + plural verb. যেমন:
A few people are aware of their duties.
Rule-27:
Both এর অেি হকে উভ । সুতরাং Both হকে Plural subject; এর পকর plural verb ব্কস। যেমন:
Both of you are guilty.
