METHOD OF STATEMENT

PURPOSE:

This procedure covers method for cutting, bending, and tying of reinforcement as per
Approved drawings.

SCOPE:

This procedure is applicable to all type of concrete reinforcement for storage, cutting,
bending, transportation fixing and tying etc. complete for entire R.C.C work related plinth
beam of buildings, structures

REFERANCE STANDARDS:
 Relevant Construction Drawings
 Technical Specification & BOQ Item
 IS 456 – R concrete
 IS: 2502-Code of Practice for Bending and Fixing of Bars for Concrete
 IS: 1786- High strength deformed steel bars and wires for concrete reinforcement-
Specification
 SP: 34 Handbook on concrete reinforcement & detailing
 For pile need approved (lapping drawing) as per approved from designer.

EQUIPMENTS:
1. Bar bending Machine,
2. Steel Mandrel
3. Nylon slings and

METHOD OF STATEMENT

Reinforcement steel of different dia. procured from approved ISI make & Approved Brand as
specified by client.

PROCEDURE:

Reinforcement Handling:

 Receive reinforcement along with manufactures test certificate / laboratory test

reports and submit the test certificates / reports to client. Prior to submission, the
certificates / reports shall be reviewed in line with acceptance criteria as per relevant
IS code etc. complete.
 Check the quality of reinforcement corresponding to weigh slip, transport and unload
the same at reinforcement yard.
 Reinforcement shall be stored at least 300 mm above form ground level.
 Where is cutting & Bending activity only authorised person allowed for cutting &
Bending.
 Pile lap zone provide as per approval from designer.
 Against requirement from site, bars shall be cut and bent to size, shape and dimension
as shown in bar bending schedule prepared by BBS Engineer based on Good for
construction drawings. The BBS shall be approved prior to use by site in charge/client
representative.
 Reinforcement shall be tied as per the latest valid for construction drawing (GFC) and
any extra bars provided at site with approval of client or consultants for its necessity
and shall be recorded in the pour card /Joint Measurement Records (JMR).
 Unusable cut bars and scrap reinforcement shall be properly placed at yard.
 Lapping on basis on higher diamete

Bar Bending Schedule:

CRESCON PROJECTS & SERVICE PVT LTD Page3|7

METHOD OF STATEMENT

 Prepare bar bending schedule based on the latest GFC drawing and to be submitted to
Client Engineer for review and subsequent application.
 Bar bending schedule shall clearly specify the following:
a) Drawing No., Revision No & date, General Drawing & details
references.
b) Rebar material identification.
c) Bar diameter.
d) Numbers
e) Cut- length
f) Shapes.
 Bar bending schedule shall take into account the following field /design requirement.
a) Desirable lap location and staggering of laps.
b) Lap lengths.
c) Development length / Anchorage length
d) Any type of weld must be shown in GFC and splice lap length.
Cutting, Bending and Placing:
 The rebar shall be clean, free from mud and oil and shall be used from approved lot.
 Cutting and bending shall confirm to the details given in the approved bar bending
schedule.
i. Bars shall be bent cold to the specified shape and dimensions or
as directed by the Engineer- in-charge using approved bar
bender.
ii. Bars bent during transport or handling shall be straightened
before being used on work, they shall not be heated to facilitate
bending.
iii. Unless otherwise specified a U type hook at the end of each bar
shall invariably be provided.
iv. The radius of bend shall not be less than twice the diameter of
the round bar for mild steel plain bars and not less than four
times the diameter for high strength deformed bars.

CRESCON PROJECTS & SERVICE PVT LTD Page4|7

METHOD OF STATEMENT

v. For bars greater than 25mm, the minimum radius shall be three
times the diameter for mild steel bars and six times the
diameter for high strength deformed bars.
 Place the reinforcement as per Approved for construction drawings ensuring the
following aspects properly
a) Type & size of bar
b) Number of bars.
c) Location & lengths of laps, splices.
d) Curtailment of bars.
e) In two way reinforcement, check the direction of reinforcement
in various layers.
f) Adequate number of chairs, spacer bars and cover blocks.
g) Size of cover blocks
h) All the bars shall be tied with binding wire 18 gauge GI
annealed steel in size and conforming to IS: 280 or as specified
in Technical specification/Drawing.
 In case of columns and walls, vertical bars shall be kept in normal position with
timber templates having slots accurately cut in for bar position. Such templates shall
be removed after the concreting has progressed up to a level just below them.
 The Vertical distance required between successive layers of bars shall be maintained
by providing space bars, inserted at such intervals that main bars do not perceptibly
sag between adjacent space bars.
 Over laps shall be staggered for as per GFC / lap zone different bars and located at
points along the span where neither shear nor bending moment is maximum. For
lapping as far as possible bars of maximum length available shall be used. Unless
otherwise specified or shown on the drawings, all laps shall be 50times the diameter
of bar. Not more than 33% of the bars shall have lapped joints at the same location.
