Scene 1: The Introduction (Licensure of Nurses & Specialization)
Narrator:
"Welcome, everyone, to our journey through the contemporary period of
nursing! In this era, nurses were finally required to pass a licensure exam,
ensuring that only qualified individuals could practice. Let’s take a look at
how this changed the hospital system."
(A hospital setting is set up. Dr. Sanchez stands in front of a group
of new nurses, holding a clipboard.)
Dr. Fines:
"Congratulations to all of you for passing the nursing licensure exam! You are
now officially registered nurses. But remember, passing the exam is just the
beginning. Today, you will be assigned to different specializations based on
your skills and interests."
(Nurse Accyl looks nervous, while Nurse Chiena stands confidently.)
Nurse Accyl:
"Specialization? I thought nurses just assisted doctors!"
Nurse chiena: (laughs)
"Not anymore, Accyl! Nowadays, we have specialized fields—ICU nursing,
pediatric nursing, surgical nursing, and more. We even have nurse
practitioners who diagnose and treat patients independently!"
Dr. Fines:
"Exactly! Let’s get started and go to our own designated specializations.

Scene 2: The Training Begins (Diploma Programs & Higher Education
in Nursing)
(The scene shifts to a classroom where Professor Estrada is lecturing nursing
students.)
Prof. Estrada:
"Before, nurses were only trained through hospital-based diploma programs.
But today, we have baccalaureate and even advanced degree programs!
Who can tell me why this is important?"
(Student 1 raises a hand eagerly)
Student Orlanda:
"Because it improves the quality of nursing care and gives us more career
opportunities?"
Prof. Estrada:
"Exactly! Now, let’s see if you’re ready for some hands-on training. Who
wants to demonstrate how to properly check your classmate’s vital signs?"
Student Lechoncito:
(Student 2 volunteers and nervously approaches a classmate in front)
Classmate Macapatod:
"Be gentle with me, its my first time”
(student nervously takes the patient’s pulse, fumbling a little.)
Prof. Estrada:
"That’s good, but remember—confidence is key in nursing!"

Scene 3: The Impact of Science & Technology in Nursing
(The stage changes to a hospital ward with modern medical equipment. A
Technician enters, holding a machine.)
Technician Corpuz:
"Welcome to the future of nursing! Back in the day, we relied on manual
blood pressure readings and handwritten patient records. Now, we have
electronic health records and automated monitoring systems."
(Intern watches in amazement as the technician demonstrates an advanced
patient-monitoring device.)
Intern Vicente:
"Whoa! So, instead of running from room to room, we can monitor patients in
real-time?"
Technician Corpuz:
"Exactly! This helps nurses focus more on patient care rather than
paperwork."
Intern Vicente:
“It’s good to know that we have more advanced equipment and machines
that helps us give more effective care for our patients”
Technician Corpuz:
“You’re right with that, like this disposable plastic syringes. After use, we
dispose them, so this eliminates the risk of transmitting infections from one
patient to another, unlike the past eras. We also have now the electronic
thermometers and blood pressure monitors, for quick and accurate
readings.”
Intern Vicente:
“Wow technology really did make everything easy and safe”
(Nurse accyl looks at Nurse Chiena, impressed.)
Nurse Alex:
"I guess nursing isn’t just about bedside care anymore—it’s about adapting
to science and technology too!"
Nurse Chiena:
"That’s right, and speaking of care, let’s check on our patients."
---
Scene 4: Nurses as Leaders & Advocates (Interactive Segment)
(The nurses check on the patients. Patient 2 is frustrated.)
Patient Xyris:
"Why do I need to wait so long for my medication?"
"Why can’t the nurse just prescribe something?"
Nurse Chiena: I understand your frustration. I've notified the doctor again,
and I'll stay with you until it arrives. Ice and a pillow coming right up.
Regarding prescribing, some advanced practice nurses do have that
authority, but it requires extensive training.
Patient Xyris:
So, why not all nurses?
Nurse Chiena: It's complex. It involves education, training, and
collaboration with doctors.
Patient Xyris:
“Okay, thank you for making it clear to me, I’ll just wait for the medication.”
Nurse Chiena:
“Thank you for understanding.”
Scene 5: (community)
Community Leader Panes: (Approaching Nurse Buat with a welcoming
smile) “Welcome, Nurse Maria. We are so grateful you have come to our
community.”
Nurse Buat: (Smiling back) ”It is my pleasure to be here. I am here to help
in any way I can.”
Community Leader Panes : (Gesturing towards the villagers) “Our people
have been facing many health challenges due to limited access to
healthcare. We have children with persistent coughs, elderly with untreated
ailments, and women with limited knowledge about maternal health.”
Nurse Buat: (Nodding in understanding) I understand. I will do my best to
provide basic medical care, health education, and refer those who need
specialized attention to appropriate facilities. Especially now that WHO sets
standards and have the necessary equipment like cancer treatment
machines and dialysis units to hospitals, making "health for all" a more
attainable goal.”
Community Leader Panes:
“Thank you, it is our privilege to have you here.”
Nurse Buat
“No, Health is not a privilege, it's a fundamental human right."
---
Scene 5: The Future of Nursing & Closing Message
(The nurses gather in a semi-circle, reflecting on their experiences.)
Nurse Buat :
"I used to think nursing was just about following doctor's orders. But now I
realize it's so much more. It's about critical thinking, leadership, and
advocating for our patients."
Student Orlanda:
"And it's constantly evolving! We need to embrace lifelong learning to keep
up with new technologies and best practices."
Prof. Estrada:
"That's the spirit! The future of nursing depends on your dedication and
passion. Remember, nursing is not just a job, it's a calling."
Patient Xyriz:
"You nurses are angels! Thank you for your compassion and care."
Lechoncito
"You make a real difference in people's lives."
Community Leader Panes:
"We appreciate your hard work and dedication."
ALL:
"We are all true heroes."
Narrator:
"The contemporary period has transformed nursing into a dynamic and
respected profession. Nurses are now highly skilled professionals, leaders,
and advocates, playing a crucial role in healthcare. As we move forward, let
us remember the importance of continuous learning, embracing technology,
and most importantly, the human touch that makes nursing truly special."
(All cast members bow to the audience.)
