Sample Script - The Lost Key

Title: The Lost Key

Characters:

• JASON: A confident and calm friend, trying to stay patient.

• KATE: Easily flustered and anxious when things go wrong.

Scene 1:

(A small, cluttered living room. JASON and KATE are looking around, searching for something.
KATE is frantically pulling cushions off the couch while JASON calmly looks under the table.)

KATE: (panicking) I swear I had it right here! How could I lose the key, Jason? We’re locked out
of the house now!

JASON: (calmly) Kate, relax. Let’s think this through. Where did you last see it?

KATE: (frustrated) I don’t know! I was rushing because we’re late for the movie. What if it fell in
the street?

(JASON straightens up and looks at KATE calmly.)

JASON: (thinking) No, we didn’t hear anything drop outside. It has to be here somewhere.
Check your bag again.

KATE: (shaking her head) I’ve checked it five times already!

JASON: (grinning) One more time won’t hurt.

(KATE sighs and reluctantly rummages through her bag again, pulling out random items.)

KATE: (grumbling) Ugh, this is impossible. Why do these things always happen to me?

JASON: (laughs) It happens to everyone, Kate.

KATE: (sarcastically) Oh yeah, you lose your keys all the time, right?

(Suddenly, KATE freezes, her hand deep in the bag.)

KATE: (excited) Wait… I feel something!

JASON: (smiling) Told you.

(KATE pulls out the key, looking relieved and slightly embarrassed.)

KATE: (sheepishly) Found it…

JASON: (playfully) See? Crisis averted. Now, let’s go before we miss the previews.

(They both grab their things and head for the door. As they leave, KATE turns back for a second.)

KATE: (teasing) Next time, you carry the key.

JASON: (laughing) Deal.

(They exit, closing the door behind them.)
