Module 1: Understanding Online Surveying

What is Online Surveying?

- Real-time positioning and data acquisition during offshore operations.

- Often during: ROV/dive ops, pipeline/cable lay, structure installs, seabed mapping, LBL metrology.

Key Tasks of an Online Surveyor:

- Monitor real-time data (positioning, sensors)

- Operate survey software

- Check offsets, alignments, sound velocity profiles

- Maintain equipment logs

- Communicate with ROV team, nav supervisor, and client reps

Module 2: Software You Must Know

Recommended Software:

- QINSy: Positioning & real-time data (qps.nl)

- EIVA NaviPac: ROV/diver tracking (eiva.com)

- Sonardyne Fusion 2: LBL/USBL Metrology (sonardyne.com)

- Hypack: Hydrographic surveys (hypack.com)

- Starfix: Used in Asia/Middle East

Module 3: Survey Setup Basics

Project Configuration:

- USBL/gyro calibration (box-in), patch test (MBES), LBL array setup

Real-time Tracking:

- Monitor ROV/diver/tooling, check latency, dropouts, position quality

Data QC:

- Raw GNSS vs corrected (RTK/DGNSS), USBL accuracy, spikes/gaps/outliers

Module 4: Hands-on Practice (Simulated)

Practice Setup:

- Use QINSy demo or EIVA NaviPac Simulator

- Simulate vessel with GPS + USBL, ROV dive, DXF overlay, track ROV, point fixes
