WC Assignment

The assignment consists of two modules focusing on research and analysis of equalization techniques. Module I requires a critical analysis of a selected research paper's design methodology and the proposal of a practical use case. Module II involves group presentations on various equalization techniques, including comparisons, real-world applications, and innovative learning methods, with a submission deadline of April 15, 2025.

ASSIGNMENT

Module I
Select a recent research paper of your interest in the domain. Perform a critical analysis of the
design methodology used in the paper. Then, propose a relevant test use case scenario/ your
understanding can be replicated, where the proposed solution or model from the paper can be
practically applied. Justify your analysis with respect to system requirements, assumptions, and
real-world applicability. The analysis has to be compiled in the form of technical writing/
survey/ report/ technical paper.

Module II
Students are required to analyze, compare, and present their understanding of different
equalization techniques through an innovative learning method, including concept maps and
problem-based learning.
Assignment Topics:
1. Survey of Equalization Techniques (Group 1)
o Compare various equalization techniques based on their advantages,
disadvantages, and applications.
o Present real-world scenarios where different equalization methods are used.
o Use an innovative approach to explain how equalization improves signal
quality.
2. Linear Equalization (Group 2)
o Analyze the linear equalizers.
o Explain scenarios where this type is preferable.
o Include visual representations such as flowcharts or animations to depict the
working principles.
3. Non-Linear Equalization (Group 3)
o Analyze the non-linear equalizers.
o Explain scenarios where this type is preferable.
o Include visual representations such as flowcharts or animations to depict the
working principles.
4. Adaptive Equalization (Group 4)
o Investigate the need for adaptive equalization in dynamic communication
environments.
o Compare different adaptive equalization methods and their effectiveness.
5. Zero Forcing (ZF) Algorithm (Group 5)
o Analyze the working of the Zero Forcing algorithm and its limitations.
o Compare ZF with other equalization methods in terms of error performance.
o Present a hands-on demonstration using MATLAB/Python or a visual
simulation tool.
6. Least Mean Squares (LMS) Algorithm (Group 6)
o Explain the LMS algorithm with a step-by-step breakdown.
o Compare LMS with other adaptive filtering techniques.

Submission Guidelines:
• Format: PowerPoint Presentation (10-15 slides).(Module II) + Technical paper
(Module I)
• Deadline: 15/04/2025
• Evaluation Criteria: Clarity, Depth of Analysis, Creativity, and Practical Relevance
