GEOGRAPHY

Time: 3 Hours
Instructions
1. This paper consists of sections A, B and C with a total of eleven (11) questions.
2. Answer all questions in section A and B and two (2) questions from section C.
3. Section A carries fifteen (16) marks, section B fifty-four (54) marks and section C
carries thirty (30) marks.
4. Map extract of KASAMWA (sheet 32/4) is provided.
5. Programmable calculators, cellular phones and any unauthorized materials are
not allowed in the examination room.
SECTION A (16marks)
Answer all questions.

following questions.
(a) Comment on the settlement patterns on the mapped are(b) Show any two methods

(c) Find the distance af the road from grid reference 360865 to 402900 in km
(d) Examine four land use of Kasamwa area.

4. a) In any research, the researcher must observe Ethical issues during data
collection. As you researcher briefly explain at least four ethical issues that a
researcher must consider during data collection and outline five Essentials of
a good questionnaire
5. After learning different types of simple land survey students were asked to explain
fruits of studying of chain survey but only Yoweli failed to explain. Assume you are a
student who understood the lesson, how will you help him to explain fruits of chain
survey?
(Any six points).
6. Study carefully the following photograph and then answer the questions that follow:

(a) With two (2) evidence, name the type of the photograph.
(b) What is the name of the dominant vegetation shown on the foreground of the
photographed area?
(c) With one (1) evidence from the photograph, suggest the climate of the
photographed area.
(d) In three (3) points, show how vegetation’s depicted on the photograph adapt to the
climatic conditions of the climate named in (c) above.
(e) Name the feature appearing on the background of the photograph and describe
the geomorphic process responsible for its formation.
7. Carefully study the following statistical graph showing sisal production (in tons) in Tanzania from
1998 to 2001 and answer the question that follows

a. With vivid reason, what type of graph is this?
b. Construct The Graph Which Shows Increasing and Decreasing of
Value of geographical phenomenon.
c. Outline five procedures that are used to prepare the graph you have
constructed in 7(b) above.
8. Kalama was inside the house where he observed a house shaking due to the
vibration of the earth’s surface caused by natural forces operating beneath and on
the earth’s crust.
Answer the following questions to complete the descriptions
(a) What environmental hazard experienced by Kalama?
(b) What is the instrument would be used to measure the intensity of the hazard
named in (a) above?
(c) Describe four causes of the hazard in (a) above.
(d) Explain four effects of the hazard named in (a) above.

SECTION C: (30 Marks)

9. The Minister for national resources and Tourism in Tanzania has been so much
active in promoting tourism sector. Due to the economic significance of it, though
there are negative impacts to our country. Elaborate this statement by giving six
points.
10. Tanzania population is growing dramatically as government succeeded in
mortality rate reduction and health sector in general. Comment on the
statement that “population growth is a double edge sword”.

11. Human activities enable the livelihood but in other hand they destroy the environment. Justify
this statement by using six points.
