● This guaranteed rate is only applicable to tuition and does not include other fees
associated with the cost of your program, such as Mandatory Non-Instructional Fees,
textbooks, residence costs, food, etc.
● Students attending the University of Alberta on a study permit follow a program-based
tuition model, which means that your annual tuition will be assessed regardless of how
many courses you register in each term.
● Despite the above, the total tuition amount is guaranteed for five years, even though
your program is anticipated to take four years to complete. This means that if you still
have required courses remaining in the 2029/30 academic term you will not need to
pay tuition for them, only the associated fees.
● Further, this guaranteed rate does not take into account any transfer credit that may be
approved as this is not always known at the time of admission. If you have transfer
credit the guaranteed total tuition listed above will be higher than the actual amount
you will be required to pay.
● This tuition guarantee only applies to the standard requirements, including electives,
necessary to complete your program (i.e. up to the total number of credits required to
complete your program, as set out in the University Calendar). The guarantee does not
include the cost for any course you choose to take in addition to the courses required
for your degree program or courses that need to be repeated due to withdrawing from
or failing a course(s). For example, in the 2029/30 academic term, any course you take
beyond the total number of credits normally required to complete your degree program
will be charged at $3617.52 CAD per 3 credit course. Any courses taken after the
2029/30 academic term will be charged at the per course rate established for that year.
● If you change programs while attending the University of Alberta, the tuition
guarantee provided within this letter will no longer apply and you will be provided
with a new guarantee at the time of admission to your new program.
● The tuition guarantee relates only to tuition for the Fall/Winter academic terms. If you
choose to take Spring/Summer courses, your total tuition will remain the same;
however, your annual total will increase that year.
Each year you will receive a Fee Assessment through Bear Tracks, which will include your
individual invoice for your tuition fees and other costs associated with your specific choice
of courses (e.g. costs for field trips, specialized supplies, etc.) For more information about
tuition and fees please see the Office of the Registrar Costs, Tuition, and Fees webpage
