Aim:To prepareand submit 30ml of Calamine lotion.
Requirements:
ApparatusRequired:
Mortar&pestle,weighbalance, measuringcylinder,glassrod,spatula,beaker,funneletc.

Chemical Required:
Calamine,Zincoxide,Bentonite,Glycerin,sodiumcitrate,Liquefied phenol,rosewater, Purified water.
Principle:
It is a suspension containing in-diffusible Solids for external use. Here we use bentonite as a
suspending agent, dispersion of bentonite is observed if it is mixed intimately with insoluble

causespartialdeflocculationofcalamineandtransfersbentonitefromgeltosolidforminitsabsence. Hence
it is thicker & difficult to pour from bottle.

3 Bentonite 15gm
4 Glycerine 5ml
5 Sodiumcitrate 5ml
6 Liquefiedphenol 50ml

Calculation:

Procedure:
MixtheweighedamountsofCalamine,ZnO,Bentoniteinamortar&pestle. Triturate with
a solution of sodium citrate in 5 ml of water.
Addrequiredamountsofliquefiedphenol&Glycerine.
Mixwell,tothisaddmoreofvehicletoproducerequiredvolume,mixthoroughlysoasto get uniform
preparation. Filter and transfer in a suitable container.
Directions:
Shakewell beforeuse. Tobeapplied2-3times aday.
Uses:
Thisis usedas astringent.
Usedassmootheningagentandgivesrelieffromitchingandpainduringskindiseasesand infections.
Itisalsousedinringworminfections.

Storage:Storedinawellclosedcontainerdarkinacoolplaceatatemperaturenot exceeding250C.
