Network Task

Students are tasked with designing a network for a specific purpose, such as a school or theme park, using various network shapes like star, ring, or bus. They must draw their network, decide on the number of devices, and present their design, explaining the chosen shape and connectivity. The assignment emphasizes the importance of network reliability and performance, particularly in the star configuration.

Instructions for Students: Design Your Dream Network!

Objective:
You will design your own network for a specific purpose, like a school, a neighborhood, or a theme
park. A network connects different devices, and today, you’ll get to choose how your network looks
and works!

Steps:

1. Understand Network Shapes:

o A network is a group of devices (like computers, hub, switch, routers, phones, or

WIFI) connected to share information.

 Star: One main hub connects all devices.

 Ring: Devices are connected in a circular loop.

 Bus: Every device is connected to a backbone and arranged in BUS shape.

2. Choose a Purpose for Your Network:

Think about what you want your network to be for. Here are some ideas:

o A school with classrooms and a computer lab.

o A theme park with rides, ticket booths, and food stalls.

o A neighborhood with houses and a community center.

3. Design Your Network:

o Draw your network on a large sheet of paper or use a digital drawing tool.

o Represent devices (like computers or ticket booths) with small circles or squares.

o Use lines to connect the devices in shapes like stars, rings, or meshes.

o Label your devices (e.g., “Library Computer” or “Roller Coaster Control System”).

4. Decide the Size of Your Network:

o Think about how many devices you need.

o For example, how many computers are in your school, or how many ticket machines
are in your park?

5. Present Your Network:

o Share your design with the class.

o Explain the shape of your network and why you chose it.

o Show how the devices are connected and how your network works.
