1. Purpose

This program aims to provide awareness that TB can spread airborne,


understand that TB is treatable about TB as well as general information
about the disease. Furthermore, the program helps to avoid any
contagious diseases.

2. Scope

This program is applicable to all HPK Employees in which the company


nurse and company doctor will conduct a seminar.

3. Requirements

3.1 Pre- employment

4. Responsibilities

Position Responsibility

Management  The management is accountable for the


successful implementation of the program.
The human resource officer and the
employees are responsible to meet the
standards set for the program.

 Ensure non- discriminatory practices in the


workplace.

 Develop, monitor and evaluate the workplace


policy and program on TB along with the
safety and health personnel as well as the
human resource.

implementing the program.

 Ensure non- discriminatory practices in the

Company Nurse  Provide information and education on TB
prevention for its workforce.

 The company nurse is responsible for


claiming the medical examination report
from the company’s chosen diagnostic and
laboratory.

 Review of the result is done by the nurse and


is referred to the company doctor for any
abnormalities/ problems.

 Special instructions are given to the patients


on how to prevent the spread of the disease
as well as advice on how to properly handle
it.

 Referral to TB DOTS if the chest x-ray result


has any abnormalities.

 Ensure non- discriminatory practices in the


workplace.

 Ensure confidentiality of the health status of


its employees and the access to the medical
records is limited to authorized personnel.

Company Doctor  Physical assessment and history taking is


done by the doctor to further find out the
possible cause of the problem.

 Instructions about referral to TB DOTS is


reinforced by the doctor.

(HR) placement programs to all employees.

5. Procedure Details

5.1 Employee’s Qualification

Effective qualification is vital for a healthy and safe work place.


Basic Requirements:
 Application
 Bio data/ Resume
 Chest X-ray
 Physical/ medical examination
 Drug test

5.2 Employee’s Evaluation

All medical exam results are reviewed by the company nurse to


check if the employee is fit to work.

If the medical exam result recommendation is unfit to work, the


employee is not accepted/ allowed to work in the company and is
informed by the HR officer.

5.3 Pre- employment Orientation

To develop a healthy and safe work place free from any contagious
diseases, the employees are made aware and informed about the
transmission of the disease, ways to avoid it, and the medications
to take after the diagnosis of the problem.

5.4 Abnormalities in the chest x- ray result


If the chest x-ray result have visualized scarring/ patches that
suspect PTB, the employee is referred to TB DOTS in their
respective health center for further testing (sputum smear/ AFB
test) to diagnose PTB as well as to immediately start the treatment
(RIPES).
5.4.1 Present employees who have abnormalities in their chest x-
ray result are referred right away to TB DOTS and
recommended to start treatment. The employee is advised
to rest for 2 weeks (contagious period) while the treatment is
ongoing.
After 14 days (non- contagious period) of continuous
treatment, the employee can return to work in the company
guaranteed that they will complete their TB treatment for 6
months.
5.4.2 After 6 months of continuous TB treatment, the employee will
present the NTP (National TB Program) form to prove that
they have taken their TB medications (RIPES) religiously.
