STRUCTURE
The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the Management and
Science University (MSU) is a 5-year medical programme comprising of 2 phases; Basic
Medical Sciences phase in the first 2 years, followed by Clinical Sciences phase
in the final 3 years. In the year 1 subjects included are Anatomy, Physiology &
Biochemistry. The second year includes Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology
and Community Medicine. Subjects included in 3, 4 & 5 years are Medicine,
Surgery, Ortho, Pediatrics, OBG, Psychiatry, Radiology, Anaesthesia, Forensic
Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology & Emergency Medicine. Application of basic
medical sciences knowledgefor clinical training is started early in phase 1 with
incorporation of Personal & Professional Development (PPD) and Early Clinical
Exposures (ECE) teachings throughout the various courses. To enhance
students’ learning experiences in the various aspects of healthcare services, our
curriculum also gives students opportunity to do clinical electives overseas;
basic research and the exciting collaborative learning with Pharmacy and other
Allied-Health Sciences studentsin the Interprofessional Education (IPE) modules.

All applicants who enter Matriculation, Foundation or Pre-Medical programmes
(except those with a degree qualification in the Arts / Humanities) shall have
passed and attained a minimum of the following at the School Certificate level
or equivalent:
SPM with minimum 5Bs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or

TEACHING &
LEARNING
Being a student-centered institution, the MBBS outcome-based curriculum
integrates the basic medical sciences and the clinical sciences knowledge
using 21st century teaching & learning methodologies in its delivery
throughout the programme.
For phase 1, teaching and learning activities mainly take place in the Shah
Alam campus and the Clinical Labs. For phase 2, students are placed in
various government hospitals, clinics and other healthcare setups for their
experiential clinical trainings.
For the Basic Medical Sciences phase, these include interactive ectures
sessions with incorporation of gamifications, problem-based learning, team-
based learning, project-based learning, practical and clinical lab sessions.
For the Clinical Sciences phase, the main teaching and learning methods
include Bed-side teaching, Clinical-Skills Lab teaching, Case presentations,
Preceptions, Task-based learning, Home visits, Field visits, Seminars, etc.
Teaching & learning activities mainly take place in the Hospitals – Wards,
Clinics, Daycare units, Outpatient and various support Departments (e.g.
Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy), Health Clinics, General Practitioners, Health
Departments, etc. The Clinical Skills Lab in the main campus provides a
controlled environment for clinical skills training which encompass the
psychomotor, affective and cognitive domains.
