Eye embroidering
You can embroider the eyes of any form, using any embroidering technique. You can
even use ready eyes or semi-beads of black color, if you’re afraid of embroidering.
I’ll show you step-to-step instruction how I embroider the eyes of my doll.
Be accurate, as the needle is too thin (it can bend or break). Work only with clean hands
and don’t hurry.
Take a thin needle (in my case, it’s a bead needle by Gamma) and moulinet thread of
black and white color. Moulinet thread consists of several thin threads. But we are going
to use only 2 threads.
All threads are inserted in the back of the head. At the end of work, cut and hide tail
threads inside the head.
Firstly, embroider with black thread.
Pin the upper and lower edges of the eye. Insert a needle in the back of the head, and
pull it out the inner edge of a left eye. Follow photos of the process below.

32
PATTERN “MARTA, THE DOLL”. AUTHOR: OLYA RADOST’

33
PATTERN “MARTA, THE DOLL”. AUTHOR: OLYA RADOST’

When the left eye is ready, pull thread out the back of the head and cut thread, but don’t
hide it right now. Mark the point where you’ll begin to embroider the right eye. Take
again thread and a needle. Embroider the right eye in the symmetry to the left one, but
work left-right.

Take thread of white color and embroider glares.

34
PATTERN “MARTA, THE DOLL”. AUTHOR: OLYA RADOST’

Now fix eyes and then hide tail threads in the back of the head. To fix the eyes I use some
strong glue like “Super Moment” and a needle. Glue a needle a bit and cover the edge of
the eyes where it’s necessary accurately with a glued needle. Don’t cover the whole eyes
with glue, fix thread a bit (accurately make it even with the help of a needle).

There is a wig down. While attaching, we’ll hide the top of the head with a lock.

Wig attachment
Tie the upper row of wig with an elastic band. Pin the wig to the head.

Attach the wig to the head, using only 1 thread. Thread a tapestry needle. Attach the
lower part of wig, working round. Thread must be in the place, where you’ve begun to
38
PATTERN “MARTA, THE DOLL”. AUTHOR: OLYA RADOST’

attach the wig.

Take an elastic band off the upper locks. Pin some locks above the face. They will be
sewn.

39
PATTERN “MARTA, THE DOLL”. AUTHOR: OLYA RADOST’

When the locks above face are attached, pull thread out the top of the head. Allocate
one curve from the upper lock on the top of the head and sew each curve to the base of
the wig.

Cut, fix and hide tail thread.
