Pressure Vessel Design and Compliance Guide

The document outlines the design and construction standards for a pressure vessel, ensuring compliance with various governmental and industry regulations. It details the considerations for loads, design methods, safety measures, and inspection requirements, emphasizing the importance of following the installation operation and maintenance manual. Additionally, it specifies that the document becomes invalid if the pressure vessel is altered from its original specifications.

– The design and construction of the pressure vessel are elaborated

and supervised by qualified professional and audited by OCP (Product

Certification Body) in accordance with the requirements for
compulsory certification, governmental decree No. 255/2014
INMETRO, ISO 16528- 1: 2008, ABNT NBR 16035-3: 2012 and the
Construction Code. The design and construction documents are filed
and maintained in accordance with the requirements of governmental
decree No. 248/2014 of INMETRO and the Quality Assurance System
of the Manufacturer. 8.2 – READ CAREFULLY THE INSTALLATION
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL OF THE PRESSURE VESSEL.
8.3 – LOADS AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS - THE LOADINGS
CONSIDERED IN THE VESSEL PRESSURE DESIGN ARE: a) internal
pressure, b) weight of the vessel and normal contents under
operating conditions, c) weight of the vessel and normal contents
under test conditions d) superimposed static reactions from weight of
attached equipment when the vessel is supplied with original
equipment assembled on it, e) internal couplings (only for vessel used
in rotary screw compressor which is part of the air / oil circuit and
condensate separators), f) the vessel supports such as legs or feet or
skirt or saddle as applicable, g) cyclic and dynamic reactions when
the vessel is supplied with original equipment assembled on it,
resulting in critical stress concentrations of localized areas, h)
hydrostatic test pressure of manufacturing and coincident static head
acting during the test, i) loads due to shipping handling installation:
see the INSTALLATION OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL OF
THE PRESSURE VESSEL. 8.4 – DESIGN METHODS: design by rules is
used in this pressure vessel according to the construction code. In
addition to this, design by analysis is also used through the Finite
Element Method (FEM), which enables the calculation of localized
stresses used in the calculation of fatigue (when necessary), and
localized stresses acting during the hydrostatic test. The FEM model is
evaluated by comparing computational and analytical results in points
with known analytical solution. 8.5 – DESIGN MARGINS / LIMITS:
design limits are defined in accordance with the rules of the
Construction Code, such as: temperature limits, governors and
required thickness, maximum allowable stresses and limits of strength
according to the material specifications permitted by the Construction
Code, etc. See items 3 and 4 of this Pressure Vessel Dossier. 8.6 –
DESIGN FACTORS: The design factors follow the rules established by
the Construction Code to consider the uncertainties of manufacturing,
complex stress states and the behavior of the material, such as
permissible out-of-roundness for cylindrical shells and tolerances for
formed heads, efficiencies of welded joints used in the calculations,
cold forming permitted without subsequent heat treating and others
as applicable. 8.7 – MEANS FOR EXAMINATION: this pressure vessel
has openings for adequate inspection according to the requirements
of the Construction Code. The openings for inspection are identified in
the nozzle table of the vessel drawing on this Pressure Vessel Dossier.
8.8 – DRAINING AND VENTING: this pressure vessel has openings for
adequate draining and venting according to the requirements of the
Construction Code. The function of each nozzle is identified in the
nozzle table of the vessel drawing on this Pressure Vessel Dossier. 8.9
– CORROSION AND EROSION/ABRASION: allowable corrosion margins
are defined in the vessel drawing of this Pressure Vessel Dossier. See
also Item 3.22. 8.10 – OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION: safety valve,
certified in accordance with the Construction Code (UG-125 UG-138 as
applicable) is installed directly in the pressure vessel. The valve set
pressure is specified with a value equal or lower than the MAWP and
its flow capacity is selected to meet the air demand originally planned
to be supplied for the pressure vessel, to prevent the pressure from
rising more than 10% above the MAWP. If the air demand supplied to
the vessel is larger than the originally envisaged a resizing of the
safety valve will be required and it shall be done by a qualified
professional. TYPE OF SAFETY DEVICE: compact safety valve type with
self-closing. It allows pressure relief in accordance with the
requirements of the Construction Code and appropriate for the fluid
type specified in the Item 2.1 of this Pressure Vessel Dossier.
OVERPRESSURE PROTECTION ACCESSORIES: beyond the safety valve
there are no additional accessories with overpressure protection
function. 8.11 – This document loses its validity if the pressure vessel
undergoes any alteration of the original features. Note: All items
referenced by NR-13, CREA, ART, INMETRO, ABNT and CONFEA in this
document are applicable just for Brazilian market. For other countries
the local legislation must be followed.
