Nimbus Mail User Guide
I. GETTING STARTED
Here, at Globecomm, we are always working hard to deliver the best Email experience to
our customers. If you have any suggestions, feedback or comments please send them to
support@[Link].
To use Nimbus Mail you’ll need a Nimbus user account with sufficient rights to access the
internet. If you don’t yet have a Nimbus user account please contact your Captain or IT
superintendent.
II. ADDING MAIL ACCOUNTS
To use the Nimbus Mail platform you will have to associate an existing email account with
your Nimbus user account.
After logging in to your Nimbus account go to Nimbus Email and then Mail Accounts.
If you have any existing email account you want to use the Use existing email option.
There is also the option to have a new account created by clicking the Create Email
Account button.
When using an existing email account you will need to select the email type and enter
the account details. This will allow you to utilize this account with the Nimbus Mail
platform.

If you are not sure which email type your mail provider supports please contact your
provider.
Please note that you can associate multiple email accounts with your Nimbus user
account.
To create a new email account select the Create email account button. A GSI-Marine
email account will be created for your use. A new email address will be provided to you
by the system.
Click Confirm to complete creation.
You will then be directed to the Mail Accounts page and you can see that the request is in
process which takes approximately 10 minutes.
The email creation process is completed when you see the complete email address,
status is OK and Active shows YES.
Your new email account is now ready for use.
To utilize the Automatic File Transfer (AFT) functionality of Nimbus you will need an
active email account.

At your Email Accounts overview list click on Edit for the email you want to get an AFT
account.
Begin by checking the box labeled AFT. Then enter the file share location and the folders
for Source (sending), Sent and Destination (receiving). You will need to enter the
username and password for the account with access to the share. This is normally the
same used to login to the PC. You may restrict the files designated to be sent by
customizing the file pattern.
III. E-MAIL BACKUP
Backup of E-Mail is offered at multiple levels:
1. At the prepaid account level. Here customers can manually save a backup of
their messages to a file on their PC.
2. At the postpaid account level. Here customers can manually save a copy of
messages to a file on their PC, or they can schedule regular backups to a file
location on a LAN attached computer or a USB storage device connected to
Nimbus.
3. Postpaid account users with sufficient user rights can schedule regular backups
to a file location on a LAN attached computer or a USB storage device connected
to Nimbus for all E-Mail accounts defined on the Nimbus

Mail Backup.

Holders of postpaid user accounts will have the option to backup their own mailbox or the
mailboxes of all users.
This page is divided into two parts. Backup Emails and Schedule a backup. Depending on
the user account that is logged in, one or both sections will be displayed. Accounts with
administrator or master rights will see both sections. Other postpaid accounts can
download a backup or schedule a backup for their own account. Prepaid accounts will
only be able to download a backup of their own emails.
4. Select the user group you want to back up
If you have elevated user rights you will need to choose either “Your Mailbox” or “All
Users” radio button.
5. Backup Emails
This creates an email backup that is downloaded via your web browser.
To start the backup click the button labeled “Backup”. A progress bar will be visible,
showing the status of the backup. Once complete a link will replace the status bar letting
you download the file.
Please be aware that depending on the size of your mailbox, or in the case you make a
backup of all email accounts, it can take some time to complete.
6. Schedule a backup
Select this option if you would like to schedule a reoccurring backup of emails.
Two storage options are available. Either utilizing a USB storage device connected
directly to Nimbus or a network shared drive.
To utilize a network share check the corresponding box and enter the login details for the
network share. Then select “Show network shares”.

If a USB storage device has already been connected it will be displayed.
Select the preferred storage location by clicking the target folder. The selected folder will
be highlighted and in bold letters.
To continue with configuring a reoccurring backup select “Schedule Backup”, alternatively
you can select “Backup Now” and a backup will be created and saved in the storage
location selected in the previous step.
Once you have selected “Schedule Backup” you’ll need to verify if the default schedule
meets your needs. If it does then select “Save”.
To customize the schedule, select the start time and the period (Daily, Weekly or
Monthly), followed by how often it shall repeat e.g. every 2 days.
You will also need to select how many backups to keep before they are overwritten.
There is an option to disable the overwrite feature. If you would like to disable the
rotation of backup then check the box “Do not delete mail archive files…” Please note if
this option is checked you must ensure that the storage location has sufficient storage
available and when necessary manually remove unwanted backups.

If an alert appears it will displayed in the web interface. If you would like to receive these
alerts via email please enter a valid email or email addresses.
To finish the process and start the scheduled backup select save.
To delete a saved schedule select the remove button.
IV. E-MAIL RESTORE
There are three options available to restore your email from a previously created backup.
To begin the process in the Nimbus web interface select Nimbus E-mail and then E-mail
restore.
The first option is to select from a list of historical backups. Choose the desired backup
from the list and click Select. Please note this option is not available for prepaid users.
The second option is to select a file from your computer hard drive. This option is used if
you created a Backup and saved it to your local PC. Prepaid users only have this option
available to them for restoring email.
The third option is like the first, except that the user must browse to the location where
the backups are saved. This option is useful if older backup files are stored for historical
purposes.

After you have selected the desired option for restoring email you will see the following
screen.
The option “Keep existing messages. Merge with the backup” will place all the messages
from the backup in your mail box overwriting the existing ones with the version from the
archive and re-populating any messages that have been deleted or moved from your
mailbox. Duplicate items will not be created.
If “Replace your current mailbox with the backup” is selected your mail box will be
overwritten with the items located in the backup.
If the backup was created by an account with administrator or master rights and the
backup is being restored by one of those accounts with elevated rights. It will be possible
to restore email for all users, an individual account or group of accounts. Please make
the desired selection and click “Restore”. Depending on the selection made it might take
some time to restore the mail.
Once the process is finished an alert will be shown in the web interface. You can then
check the account to access the messages that have been restored.
V. LOGGING TO NIMBUS MAIL
1. To access the Webmail login page click on the Webmail tab under the “Nimbus Email”
section or go directly to [Link]
2. Enter your Nimbus account username (1).
3. Enter your Nimbus account password (2).
4. Click the Login button (3).

VI. THE NIMBUS WEBMAIL INTERFACE
Once successfully authenticated, at the start page window you see the current Emails in
your mailbox.
Field (1) is the Inbox where all your incoming email messages are listed. The preview
window (2) allows you to view emails upon arrival.
Use the navigation bar (3) at the top of every screen to go to the corresponding window.

1. Mail: clicking this button returns you to the inbox.
2. Address Book: Create and manage contacts.
3. Settings: The settings menu provides the ability to customize your mail experience.
4. Logout: Log out of the Web interface.
On the left side of the mail window you will find the folders list (4). You can navigate
your email folders by clicking on the desired folder.
The folders listed above are created by the system; you have the possibility to add
additional personal folders by clicking on “Settings” and selecting the “folders” tab.
Webmail tool bar (5):
The following tools are provided:
1. Check for new messages: Checks for new messages that have arrived in
Nimbus. Note that the system will itself check for new messages periodically.
2. Create a new message: Opens a window where you can compose a new Email
message and add attachments.
3. Reply to sender: Click the Reply-To Sender button to reply to a message in your
Inbox.
4. Reply to all recipients: Click the Reply to all recipients button to reply to the
sender and all copied addresses of the message selected.
5. Forward the message: Opens the message so it can be forwarded to another
email recipient.
6. Delete: Moves the selected message(s) to the to trash folder.

7. Mark messages: Flag the selected message(s).
8. More Actions: With this button you can print, download, and edit messages as
new.
9. Filter: Sort messages by specific categories.
10. Search: Quickly locate messages by sender, subject or key
words.
VII. CREATE A NEW MESSAGE
The Nimbus Web Interface features intuitive icons that allow the creation of new
messages:
A short explanation of the compose tool bar icons:
1. Back to message list: Returns to folder that you last accessed.
2. Send message: Sends the message.
3. Attach a file: Opens a window to select a file to attach.
4. Insert signature: Inserts a predefined signature.
5. Save as draft: Saves the message to the Drafts folder.

6. Show address book: Opens the address book in a separate window.
7. Message options: Opens a menu that allows you to select the following options:
Return receipt, delivery status notification, priority, save sent message in folder.
Follow the steps below to compose and send an email:
1) Click Create New message.
2) If you have more than one email accounts associated with your Nimbus user account
then select the appropriate originating email address from the pull down menu.
3) Enter a recipient, or choose a recipient from your address book into the To: field.
Add copy and blind copy addresses as required.
4) Enter a subject line.
5) Optional * Select whether the email should be flagged as Low, Normal or High
Priority from message options.
6) Enter the content of the email (including adding attachments if desired).
7) Click Send to complete the process or click Save to Draft to save the email
to your drafts folder so that you can modify it or send it later.
VIII. ADDRESS BOOK
To Access the address book click the button located on the navigation bar.
Address book:
1. Groups: New contact groups can be added by utilizing the plus button (4). Also in
settings (5) groups can be renamed, deleted, or removed.
2. Contacts: List of contacts located in the selected group.
3. Contact properties: Details of selected contact are shown.

Address book tool bar:
1. Add new contact: Opens a new contact window. Please note that at least one
valid email address needs to be inserted into the contact before it can be saved.
2. Create a new message: Composes a new message with selected contact(s) as
the recipients.
3. Delete contact(s): Remove the selected entries from the address book.
4. Import contacts: Addresses in VCard format can be imported. The contacts can
be either added to existing contacts or you can replace the entire address book..
5. Export contacts: Save contacts in the vCard format.
6. Search: Easily find contacts using key words.
IX. NIMBUS MAIL SETTINGS AND PREFERENCES
To configure preferences for Nimbus Mail select the settings button on the navigation
bar.
The three sections are:
1. Preferences: Allow you to edit the following sections.
1.1 User Interface: Set the preferred language and time settings.

1.2 Mailbox view: Change how Nimbus displays your emails.
1.3 Composing Messages: Configure message behavior and format.
1.4 Displaying Messages: Set how email is displayed.

1.5 Address Book: Define how contacts will be displayed.
1.6 Server Settings: General handling of deleted emails.
2. Folders properties: Allow you to change how messages are displayed as well as total
size of messages in each folder.
3. Identities: are listed for each email account you associate with your Nimbus user
account. You can assign a signature for each email address as well as change the display
name.
