Some ideas related to democracy in the USA are
mentioned.
known all over the world that democracy in the USA is the best. It is the belief in freedom and equality
between people, or a system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected
representatives or directly by the people themselves. Furthermore, Abraham Lincoln defined democracy in
American context as the rule of the people by the people and for the people. The aim of this writing is to point
out firstly the strengths of democracy and secondly its weaknesses.

Indeed, Democracy in the USA has many strengths among which one can cite: the rules of law, freedom of
speech, freedom to belong to any political party, multi-partism, the right to vote, fair-elections, peace, liberty
and pursuit of happiness, human rights, power alternation etc.

On the other hand, it has some weaknesses namely: money in politics, fraud, corruption, social
discrimination in politic matters, gender discrimination, greediness, untrustworthy etc.

In a nutshell/ a word/to conclude it, democracy of the USA, despite its flaws, is a good political regime.

SPEECH DELIVERED BY AMAH KWATCHA IN

KWATCHA-CITY ON THE INDEPENDENCE DAY
CELEBRATION ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PATRIOTISM,
ON 27TH APRIL 2024.
Mr. Chairman, Honorable Mayor, Honorable
traditional Chiefs, dear Principals/Headmasters, dear
Teachers, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am extremely
happy to have been given this rare occasion, to
express my opinion on the importance of patriotism.

Ladies and gentlemen, for several years now, we have

been assisting to a lack of civism in our community,
both from the youths and adults. We don’t show any
respect for patriotic values in schools, markets and
workplaces. This situation is diminishing our country’s
status here and elsewhere. What a pity !
Patriotism is the love, devotion and passion to the
welfare of one’s country and compatriots. Every
citizen must devote themselves to the well-being of
their nation. We must respect our emblems such as
the national anthem, the flag, the motto and all the
other ensigns/objects that represent our fatherland
everywhere. By patriotism, we prove ourselves
respectful towards the nation and our love for it. We
prove that we are ready to defend our fatherland
against any enemy. By patriotism, we show that we
can give our life for our fatherland. Thus, everyone
planning to attack our country should think twice
before acting so.
Ladies and Gentlemen, our fatherland is sacred. Then,

42
patriotism must be seen in our daily lives. Our
fatherland must be respected, loved and protected. All
the citizens must work together hand in hand for its
development too.

Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen, the love of the

fatherland is the only way to make our country a great
nation. So, let’s be true patriots.
Thank you!

Text: Farming in Modern Society

Farming has evolved significantly in modern society. Traditional farming, which relied on manual labor and
basic tools, has been replaced by advanced technology and machinery. Today, many farmers use tractors,
plows, and combine harvesters to efficiently manage large fields. This technology helps increase crop yields
and reduce the amount of manual labor required.

In addition to machinery, modern farming techniques include precision agriculture. This approach uses GPS and
data analysis to optimize planting and harvesting. Farmers can now monitor soil conditions, weather patterns,
and crop health with great accuracy. This not only improves productivity but also helps in managing resources
like water and fertilizers more effectively.

Modern farming also focuses on sustainability. Farmers are increasingly adopting practices such as crop
rotation and organic farming to maintain soil health and reduce environmental impact. By rotating crops,
farmers can prevent soil depletion and control pests naturally. Organic farming avoids synthetic chemicals and
promotes biodiversity, which is crucial for long-term agricultural health.

Another important aspect of modern farming is the rise of vertical farming and urban agriculture. These
methods allow food to be grown in urban areas, reducing the need for transportation and minimizing the carbon
footprint. Vertical farms use stacked layers to grow crops indoors, utilizing controlled environments to enhance
growth and efficiency.

As the global population grows, modern farming techniques will continue to adapt and evolve. Innovations in
technology and sustainability will play a crucial role in meeting the world's food demands while preserving
natural resources.

"Modern farming techniques include ____ agriculture, which uses GPS technology.") for students to complete

WRITING A COMMERCIAL

A commercial or advertisement is
any type of broadcast on TV,
radio or online platforms to
persuade, inform and remind
customers about a product or
66
service. The different components
of an advertisement are:
1. The Headline

The headline introduces the

product. Example : ‘’Eau Vitale’’

2. Slogan

It is a phrase or a sentence that

describes the benefit derived from
the product or service; a phrase that
gets the attention of the audience
and easy to remember. Example :
‘’L’EQUILIBRE AU QUOTIDIEN’’

3. Body Copy

The body copy elaborates upon the

headline and provides supporting
proof. When the headline poses a
question, the subheading answers it.
The amount of detail in an
advertisement should be sufficient
to answer the questions arising in
the minds of a prospective buyer.

4. Visualization

Visuals and pictures help people

dream and project themselves in to
another time, place, or situation.
Pictures appeal to our hidden and
suppressed emotions. For example
think about the picture, which
comes to your mind when you think
the word ‘flower’. Example: Image
of any product.

5. Layout

Advertisement layout has two

meanings. One means the total
appearance of the advertisement,
its design, and the composition of
the various elements. The other
meaning is the act or process of
placing the elements of
67
advertisement (copy, visuals, etc.)
together.

6. Trademark (Marque déposée

The term trademark is any word,

symbol or device that distinguishes a
product from others manufactured
or sold in the market. Trademarks
increase the credibility of the firm
because the buyer buys the product
only after looking at the brand
name.
