Statistics and Probability Reference Guide

1. Mean

Ungrouped Data:

Mean = Sum of all values / Number of values

Grouped Data:

Mean = Sum(f * x) / Sum(f)

Where x = data value, f = frequency

2. Median

Ungrouped Data:

- Odd: Middle value

- Even: Average of two middle values

Grouped Data:

Median = L + [(N/2 - F) / f] * h

3. Mode

Ungrouped Data:

Most frequent value

Grouped Data:

Mode = L + [(f1 - f0) / (2f1 - f0 - f2)] * h

4. Quartiles

Ungrouped:

Q1 = 1/4(n+1)th, Q2 = Median, Q3 = 3/4(n+1)th

Grouped:

Qk = L + [(kN/4 - F)/f] * h

5. Deciles

Ungrouped:

Dk = k(n+1)/10 th term
Statistics and Probability Reference Guide

Grouped:

Dk = L + [(kN/10 - F)/f] * h

6. Interquartile Range

IQR = Q3 - Q1

7. Probability (Definitions)

P(E) = Favorable Outcomes / Total Outcomes

0 <= P(E) <= 1

Sample Space = All outcomes

Event = Subset of sample space

8. Permutation

P(n, r) = n! / (n - r)!

(Order matters)

9. Combination

C(n, r) = n! / [r!(n - r)!]

(Order doesn't matter)

10. Conditional Probability

P(A|B) = P(A and B) / P(B)

11. Independent Probability

If A and B are independent: P(A and B) = P(A) * P(B)
