the area enclosed by the curve.
2. Derive the Euler’s equation of fluid motion. Also, obtain the Bernoulli’s equation from the
Euler’s Equation. Explain the underlying assumptions being made in aforesaid analyses
3. Explain the method of finding out the magnitude and direction of resultant force on a curved
submerged surface.
(B) Answer any ONE of the following 02
1. The velocity components of a steady, two dimensional flow of an ideal fluid, are u = 2xy and
v = a2 + x2 – y2 .Show that the velocity potential exists and determine the same.
2. Compare variation of pressure for Venturimeter, Orifice meter and Nozzle meter.
(C) Answer any One of the following 03
1. The laminar boundary layer exist over the flat plate and at the edge of laminar boundary layer,
the inertial force per unit volume is of the same order of magnitude as the viscous force per
unit volume. Obtain expression for boundary layer thickness and shear stress along the flat
plate.
2. Discuss variation of friction factor for hydraulically smooth, rough and transitional regime.
(D) A smooth pipe carries 7 liters of water per second at 200C having kinematic viscosity of 1 02
centistokes with a head loss of 70 mm per 10m length. Determine the pipe diameter in mm. If
this diameter is doubled than what will be the head loss?
Q.2(A) Answer any ONE of the following 03
(i) The viscous force FD exerted by the fluid on a sphere of diameter D depends on viscosity μ,
mass density of the fluid ρ and velocity of the sphere V. Obtain an expression for the drag
force, using the method of dimensional analysis.
1
(ii) Enlist the minor losses giving their significance and derive the expression for gradual
enlargement in pipe flow and state how it differs from sudden enlargement.
(B) Answer any TWO of the following 03
(i) Derive an expression for work done by jet of water striking series of asymmetric curved vanes
mounted on rotating wheel. What will be the efficiency of the system?
(ii) Explain Prandtl mixing length hypothesis. What is the total shear stress in case of turbulent
flow?
(iii) Discuss various efficiencies of the turbine.
(C) Two reservoirs X and Z having a difference of level 15 m are connected by a pipe line XYZ. 04
The elevation of point Y being 3.8 m below the level of water in reservoir X. The XY of the
pipe line is 300 m , the pipe being made of mild steel having a friction factor f1, while the
length YZ is 400 m, the pipe having made of glass reinforced pipe having a friction factor f2.
Bothe the pipes XY and XZ have a diameter of 200 mm. A partially closed valve is located at
a distance of 125 m from reservoir Z. If the flow through the pipe line is 2900 lit/min, the
pressure head at B is 0.45 m and head loss at the valve is 4.5 m, find the friction coefficients f1
and f2.Draw the hydraulic grade line and indicate on the diagram head loss values at significant
points. Consider head loss at entrance and exit points of the pipe line.

corresponding specific energy for a rectangular channel of width 2 m with discharge of 4m3/s.
(ii) Discuss various types of hydraulic jumps and its practical significance as energy dissipater.
(iii) Differentiate between impulse turbine and reaction turbines giving examples of each type of
turbine.
(C) Answer any ONE of the following 03
(i) A centrifugal pump with an impeller of 40 cm outside and 20 cm inside diameter run at 1000
rpm. The vanes are set back at an angle of 35ᵒ to the outer rim. If the radial velocity of water
