Narrative Report on National Reading Program

Quarter 3- Grade 2

"Learning to read is the most important thing a child will do in

school." - Rudolf Flesch

We conducted a lesson on the consonant digraph to a Grade 2 students.

The objective of the lesson was to introduce the concept of the digraph and help
students recognize and read words containing this digraph.

The lesson began with a review of consonant sounds and an introduction

to the concept of digraphs. We explained that the digraph is a combination of
two consonant letters that make a single sound. We used visual aids and
examples to illustrate this concept.

The students were then presented with a list of words containing different
digraph. We practiced reading these words together as a class, and I provided
feedback and guidance as needed.

To reinforce the students' understanding of the digraph, we conducted

several activities. These included:

A reading exercise where students read words containing the digraph on

their own. A word-building activity where students used letter cards to build
words containing the digraph. A game where students matched words containing
the digraph with their corresponding pictures.

The results of the lesson were positive, with the majority of students
demonstrating an understanding of the digraph. The students were able to
recognize and read words containing this digraph with accuracy.

The lesson on the consonant digraph was a success, and we believe that
the students benefited from the instruction and activities.

Reading is vital for personal growth and societal progress, offering

numerous benefits like expanded knowledge, improved communication,
enhanced comprehension, and stress reduction, while also fostering
critical thinking and imagination.

As we support the said program, we teachers of Grade 1 learners in

Tambo Elementary School, work for different techniques and strategies on
how to fully implement this National Reading Program. Following the
guidelines and given materials, started harmonizing and teaching NRP in
the given time allotment, which was held every afternoon, after lunch.

We do prepare different activities for different groups of learners

such as intervention group, consolidation group and enrichment group.

For the 2nd Quarter, the learners use their developing word
knowledge in automatically recognizing sight words; decode high
frequency words and content-specific vocabulary and use them to express
ideas; and narrate personal experiences with one’s school and content-
specific topics.
