2. Research Methodology
- Surveys To collect quantitative data on user satisfaction,
frequency of use, and impact on travel behavior.

3. Data Collection Tools and Techniques
a) Surveys
- Target Audience Commuters who use the Pune Metro and
those who use alternative transportation methods (auto-
rickshaws, buses, private vehicles).
- Types of Questions
- Demographic Information Age, occupation, commuting
distance, etc.
- Metro Usage Frequency of use, reasons for using metro
(time-saving, cost-effective, etc.), preferred stations,
satisfaction levels.
- Impact on Other Transportation Services Reduced reliance
on other modes (auto-rickshaw, bus, private vehicle), change
in traffic patterns in their area, etc.
- General Satisfaction Cleanliness, safety, availability of
seating, train frequency, station facilities, and ease of access.
b) Observational Study
- Locations Metro stations, bus stands, key traffic
intersections, and areas with significant private vehicle traffic.
- Focus Observe the changes in traffic flow, waiting times at
bus stops, the number of passengers using the metro, and how
other transportation services are being affected by the metro’s
presence.
4. Sample Size & Sampling Method
a) Surveys
- Sample Size Aim for minimum 100 survey responses to
ensure reliable data.
- Sampling Method Stratified random sampling, where you
select participants across different age groups, professions,
and metro usage patterns (frequent, occasional, non-users).
b) Observational Study
- Observe at least 3 metro stations during different times of
the day (morning rush hour, mid-day, and evening rush hour).
- Observe traffic at key intersections near metro stations and
compare with areas far from the metro network.
