Conferences

Choices
Norms for Conferences
★ We must stick to our schedule 40 minutes for you, 5 minutes for teachers.
★ Friday is a day of celebration - Questions, compliments and specific
constructive feedback are welcome!
★ If adults require a longer conversation with the teacher, these can be
scheduled at a future date.
★ Make yourself at home! Feel free to look around and use our classroom
space.
★ If you run out of time, children may take their learning to an outdoor space or
home with them for the evening.
Choices

5. Inquiry after 45 minutes, you may do
outside or at home if you wish.
Class Tour
Show your adults your favorite parts of the room
● Why are they your favorite?
● What more can you tell them about it?

Explain a routine that you do most of the time:


● Class meeting - have them try what we do (greetings, movements, games)
● Class jobs - What is your job? What is your opinion of it? What job do you want
next? Why do you want it?
● Transition times (Where we get our stuff from, How we organize things.)

Reading
Pick a book from your book box.

✘ Explain if it is an easy book, a just right book or a challenge book. Tell your
adults how you know.
✘ Explain the read aloud strategies we use:
✗ Echo reading
✗ Choral reading
✗ Seesaw reading
✘ Show your adults what kind of reflection sticky you might do for a book like
this.
✘ Have your adults try a sticky reflection.
Writing
Pick a book you have written.

✘ Have your adults read it.


✘ Share feedback you got about your writing.
✘ Give yourself two stars and a wish.
✘ Ask your adults for two stars.

Math
Pick a word problem from the board.

✘ Solve it using a model and explain your thinking.


✘ Have your adult do the same.

AND/OR

Grab some playing cards and teach your adults a math game.

Inquiry
Show your adult your playground model and explain why you chose the
materials you did.

AND/OR
Show your parents the concept hexagons and explain how you think the
concepts could be connected to each other and to other subjects like
reading or math. Challenge them to share their ideas!

AND/OR

Tell your adult about your personal inquiry project you did and how it
went.

ask you students about two stars and a wish.
● We are highlighting our Big 5 Active Learner Roles.
● Make yourself at home! Feel free to look around and use our
classroom space.
● If you run out of time, children may take their learning to an outdoor
space or home with them for the evening.
● If adults require a private conversation with the teacher, we can
step out for up to several minutes during the conference. We can
schedule 20 minute plus conferences for later days.
