Title: The effects of heat on students in the learning environment
Introduction
The purpose of this SBA is to study negative environmental impacts in schools around
Guyana. As temperatures rise, so does our awareness of the effects of heat on various aspects
of our lives. One critical area that deserves attention is education, particularly how extreme
heat impacts students in their learning environments.
Background and Overview of the Issue/Problem Statement
Heat has been a determining factor for most academic performances due to either
poor ventilation or high temperatures. It has been evident that students can learn more
than twice as quickly in cooler temperatures because they are more alert, and they pay
more attention in class.
Statement of the Problem
The students of Marian Academy have been constantly complaining about the unbearable
heat throughout the day and as a result have been mentally and physically drained. This
leads to less productivity in the classroom.
Research Objectives
To identify the negative effects of heat in the school environment
To determine the ideal temperature for a normal classroom
To quantify the average of students who want better temperature control
