SUBJECT: RECONSTITUTION OF THE UNIVERSITY DRESS CODE
COMMITTEE
I write on the directive of the Chairperson, University Dress Code Committee to appreciate
the effort of staff and students that has contributed towards the promotion and adherence to
the University stipulated dress code and to further inform you that the Committee has been
reconstituted by the Vice-Chancellor to further aggrandize the culture of decent dressing
among staff and students of this great Institution.
Accordingly, the Committee wish to bring to your notice types of dress code violation and
punitive measures for your noting and strict compliance
A. MALE STUDENTS:
1. Artificially Curled/Relaxed hair
2. Wearing trousers below the waist
3
3. Wearing of three quarter [ ] trousers
4
4. Not wearing/displaying Student Identity Card
5. Wearing Sleeveless Shirts
6. Wearing unbuttoned Shirts
7. Flying shirt collars
8. Wearing of ear rings, hair braiding, dread locks, jagged shirts and trousers, tattoo.
9. Tight dress/transparent dress/dress showing sensitive body parts
B. FEMALE STUDENTS:
1. Non-plated hair indecently relaxed
2. Indecent clothing, not covering armpits, breasts, chests, waists and thighs
3. Wearing of sleeveless shirts, shorts and miniskirts, Spaghetti and crop tops
4. Unbuttoned shirts/skirts
5. Flying shirt collars.
6. Tight dress/transparent dress/dress showing sensitive body parts.
The punitive measures are enumerated as follows:
1. Lecturers are to send students who dress indecently out of their classes, seminars,
field trips or excursions, library and its facilities, examination halls and matriculation
venues.
2. Indecently dressed students are to be photographed and published in the University
Bulletin.
3. Second offenders are to be arraigned before the University Students Disciplinary
Committee for further punitive action which could be rustication for a Semester.
4. In addition the parent or guardian shall be invited
5. Third offenders shall be expelled.

SUBJECT: CONSTITUTION OR REVITALIZATION OF EXISTING DRESS CODE
COMMITTEE AT THE FACULTY/ DEPARTMENTAL LEVEL
Sir, you may wish to note that the Vice-Chancellor has on Wednesday, 26 th February, 2025,
approved the re-constitution of the University Dress Code Committee. Consequently, the
Committee at its 2nd meeting held on Thursday, 20th March, 2025, reiterated the need to
aggrandize the culture of decent dressing among students of the University and resolved as
follows:
i. All Dean should constitute or revitalize the existing Dress Code Committee in their
various Faculties/Departments to further deepen awareness on the University stipulated
dress code;
ii. Deans are also charged with the responsibility of sensitization of students on the dress
code of the University during Orientations, Matriculations, Post/UTME Screening and
before commencement of every lectures;
iii. Deans and Heads of Department should constitute part of the membership of the
Committee.
2. The Committee Terms of Reference is as follows:
a) To enforce the University Dress Code by ensuring that Male students maintain skin cut,
or low cut. Artificial curled or relaxed hair is not acceptable. Female students should
maintain a plated or decently relaxed or braided hair.
b) To ensure that male and female students, while on campus, should wear decent clothes
that will adequately cover their armpits, breast, chests, waists and thighs. Students
should not be allowed to wear sleeveless shirts, short and miniskirts on campus;
c) To ensure that students are not allowed to completely unbutton their shirts and skirts.
No student shall fly their shirt collars on campus;
d) To ensure that students are not allowed to pull their trousers below the waists or use
three quarter trousers on the campuses;
e) To work in close liaison with the University Dress Code Committee and report erring
students accordingly.
f) To ensure that students always wear and display their identity cards while on campus
and the newly admitted students should use their Admission Letter as a means of
identification.
g) To monitor classrooms to ensure that lecturers sent out students that have violated the
dress code;
h) Prepare and submit report on the assignment to the University Dress Code Committee
for onward submission to the Vice Chancellor on quarterly basis.
