Drawing Conclusions and Recommendations
Writing Conclusions
The conclusion section provides the closing statement of the study. It also provides
summaries of the preceding chapters of the study to serve as a review for the readers.
The following sections must be revisited when writing the conclusion:
• Introduction and background of the study
• Literature review
• Methodology and research design
• Data analysis
Guidelines in Formulating Conclusions:
1. Collate Interpreted Data from the Data Analysis: Organize the interpreted data to have a
clear presentation of how the findings of the study have addressed the research questions.
2. Synthesize Key Findings: Present only a summary of how the descriptive and inferential
results were generated.
3. Relate the Findings to Research Questions: Interpreting the statistical results enables the
researcher to generate logical conclusions.
4. Revisit the Main Objectives and Hypothesis of the Study: The acceptance or rejection of
the hypothesis lies at the core of the study.
5. Indicate the Extent to Which Objectives Were Achieved: Discuss any limitations or
confounding variables affecting the objectives.
6. Highlight the Implications and Significance of the Findings: State the possible effects of
the results as applied in real-life settings.
Recommendations for Quantitative Research
Three Approaches to Writing Recommendations:
1. Theoretical - Focus on the gaps found in the conceptual and theoretical framework of the
study.
2. Methodological - Focus on the gaps found in the data gathering procedures and statistical
analysis.
3. Practical - Focus on the implications of statistical results in real-life situations.
Guidelines in Creating Recommendations:
1. Use the draft conclusion as a basis.
2. Reexamine the existing gaps in the literature.
3. Highlight the implications of the statistical findings.
4. Reiterate the limitations of the study.
5. Suggest future courses of action.
Developing an Outline for Your Presentation
Outline for Your Presentation:
• Introduction
• Methodology
• Results
• Conclusion
Presentation Guidelines:
1. Capture the attention of your audience.
2. Clearly state your purpose.
3. Present an outline of your talk.
4. Summarize key points before concluding.
5. Avoid abrupt endings and thank your audience.
God Bless on your final defense!
