Reading Comprehension: How Digital Technology Is Changing the
Way We Communicate
Text:
Interview with a Technology Expert – Dr. Lina Tran
Interviewer: Dr. Tran, how has digital technology changed the way people
communicate?
Dr. Tran: It has changed communication in many exciting ways. Today,
people use smartphones, social media, and apps like Zoom or Teams to
talk to each other. These tools make communication much faster and
easier, especially for people living far apart.
Interviewer: That’s true. But are there any problems with this kind of
communication?
Dr. Tran: Yes, while it is convenient, some people feel lonely because they
don’t meet others face to face as much. Also, messages online can
sometimes be misunderstood. Without seeing someone’s facial
expressions or hearing their tone of voice, it’s hard to know their real
feelings.
Interviewer: That makes sense. What do you think about young people
and digital communication?
Dr. Tran: I think young people are very skilled with digital tools. They can
send messages, post photos, and share videos quickly. However, they
should also learn when it’s better to talk in person—like during important
or emotional conversations.
Interviewer: Do you think digital technology will keep changing how we
talk?
Dr. Tran: Definitely. In the future, we might use virtual reality to talk as if we
are in the same room. Technology keeps developing, so the way we
communicate will keep evolving too.
