I live on a houseboat on the river Thames in London. It’s very quiet. You only hear
boats. There isn’t any noise from cars or buses. We moved here four years ago. My
parents wanted to buy a flat near the river but they were all very expensive. Then
they found our houseboat. It’s very comfortable; it’s got central heating and a
modern bathroom. Obviously, there isn’t a garden here, but in the summer, we sit
outside in the sun.

There are two problems with this houseboat. Sometimes, it moves a lot and things
fall off the tables. Also, there isn’t a lot of space on a houseboat.

The best thing about our houseboat is that we can travel in it. Last year we went to
France. It was a brilliant holiday! We didn’t need to pack suitcases. We took our
home on holiday with us!

Oliver (12)

I live in a castle in Scotland. The castle isn’t ours but we have a lovely flat in the
castle. The castle is near the sea and it’s very old. Behind the castle, there’s a big
mountain and there’s a forest too. There’s also a big garden with a tennis court and
a swimming pool. I swim a lot and I’ve got my own surfboard.

My parents came here eight years ago when I was 4, they work here: my father
looks after the garden, the forest and the pool. And my mother cleans the castle,
does the shopping and cooks. It’s a great place to live: I’m near the sea, I’ve got a
private forest to go for walks and my friends love coming here to visit me.
