Research Title: DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF AN ACTIVATED CHARCOAL-BAKING
SODA BASED ODOR ELIMINATOR IN A SOLID AIR FRESHENER FORM
Date of Submission: 31 March 2025
Progress Report No.: 1
Professor: Dr. Charito Ong
For Quantitative Research
I. Summary of Research Topic
The research focuses on developing an alternative odor eliminator using activated charcoal and
baking soda. This study aims to create a product with a texture similar to an air freshener while
ensuring its effectiveness in neutralizing odors. The rationale behind this research is to provide a
natural and eco-friendly solution for odor elimination, leveraging the absorptive properties of
activated charcoal and baking soda.
II. Research Objectives
To develop an effective alternative odor eliminator utilizing activated charcoal and baking soda.
Specific Objectives:
● To determine the optimal ratio of activated charcoal and baking soda for odor absorption.
● To assess the effectiveness of the developed odor eliminator compared to commercial
products.
● To evaluate the durability and usability of the product in different environments.
● To explore innovative ways to enhance the texture and application of the odor eliminator.
III. Progress Made
Summarize the work completed so far.
- Finalized research title and problem statement ✔️
✔️
- Partially what I did in Data Collection about the problem I did Social Media Analysis and Own
Experience
- Further Interview will happen within this week and until 2nd week (In Progress)
IV. Problems Encountered
- Finding RRLs about the combination of Activated Charcoal and Baking Soda because so far in
what I’ve found I only found 1 RRL that combines the Activated Charcoal and Baking Soda
- The desired texture has not been fully achieved yet. Experimenting with different binding agents
to enhance the form and usability of the product.
V. Next Steps / Action Plan
- Complete survey distribution – [3rd week of April]
- Encode and analyze data – [3rd week or After]
- Draft Chapter 4 – [This Month]
VI. Remarks / Notes
I believe our research is progressing well, as I have already laid out a solid foundation. I
have successfully finalized our research title and problem statement, conducted social media
analysis, and used my personal experiences to frame the problem. The upcoming interviews will
further strengthen my data collection process.
One of the biggest challenges We have faced is the limited availability of related literature
(RRLs) discussing the combination of activated charcoal and baking soda. So far, I have only found
one relevant RRL. However, I am compensating for this gap by gathering empirical data through
interviews and surveys. Additionally, refining the product’s texture remains an ongoing challenge,
but I am actively experimenting with different binding agents to improve its form and usability. I
need to ensure that my survey distribution remains on schedule and that I efficiently encode and
analyze my data. Overall, I feel that I am making steady progress, and I am effectively addressing
any obstacles that come my way.
Every page you write, every idea you refine, and every challenge you overcome is a quiet victory
toward your scholarly journey. Keep going, Class! Your research is not just about data, it is about
the difference you are meant to make. I believe in you.
God bless you hugely!
