Smart Helmet for Two-Wheeler Safety
Problem Statement
India witnesses over 1.4 lakh road fatalities annually, many involving two-wheelers. Helmet
non-compliance, drunk driving, and delayed medical response contribute significantly to these
fatalities. Existing helmets lack real-time safety features for accident prevention and emergency
response.
Proposed Solution: Advanced Smart Helmet
This smart helmet integrates IoT and AI-based technologies to enhance rider safety. It includes
features like automatic helmet detection, alcohol sensing, crash detection with SOS alerts,
voice-activated emergency calls, LED blind-spot indicators, and air quality monitoring.
Key Features & Technologies
Helmet Detection Lock
Ensures the helmet is worn before starting the bike using Bluetooth/RFID.
Alcohol Detection Sensor
Prevents ignition if alcohol is detected and alerts emergency contacts.
Crash Detection & SOS
Detects accidents, vibrates for response, and sends location if no response.
Voice-Activated Emergency Call
Allows hands-free emergency calls by saying 'Help Me'.
Bluetooth Intercom & Navigation
Enables hands-free calling and Google Maps navigation.
LED Indicators for Blind Spots
Improves visibility with smart helmet turn signals.
Air Quality Monitoring
Detects pollution levels and advises on safety measures.
Technologies Used & Components
- Helmet Detection: Bluetooth/RFID (HC-05)
- Alcohol Detection: MQ-3 Sensor
- Crash Detection: MPU6050 Sensor
- SOS & GPS: GSM (SIM800L), GPS (NEO-6M)
- Voice Recognition: AI-based microphone processing
- LED Indicators: Smart helmet turn signals
- Air Quality Sensor: MQ-135 Sensor
Expected Impact
- Reduces road fatalities by ensuring helmet compliance and preventing drunk driving.
- Faster emergency response with automatic SOS and GPS tracking.
- Enhances rider awareness with blind-spot indicators and pollution alerts.
- Affordable and user-friendly, making it suitable for mass adoption.
