REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Hello dear teenagers!

This module aims to let you know about the parts and functions of the male and female
reproductive system. You are invited to learn basic information about your reproductive
organs and its specific functions so that you can better take care of your reproductive
selves. At this age your reproductive system has reach its full functionality and
development. Acquiring understanding of the parts and function of the reproductive
system will contribute to your intelligence and responsible decision making. Thus,
understanding reproductive system matters. So, let your journey in the parts and function
of reproductive system begin!

and future.
Male and female reproductive systems work together in a multifaceted manner to perform
the phenomenal function of reproduction. In males, the system includes the testes, where
sperm is produced, and various supporting structures. Females possess the ovaries, fallopian
tubes, uterus, and vagina, each with its unique role in the production of eggs and the
nurturing of a developing fetus.

Knowledge of the reproductive system extends beyond awareness of how to get

pregnant. It includes several aspects of health, such as general wellbeing, sexual health,
and fertility. Understanding how this system works helps you better understand your body,
recognize possible problems, and get help from a doctor when needed. Understanding the
reproductive system empowers you to take control of your health, make wise decisions, and
promote universal access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare.

A. THE PARTS AND FUNCTION OF

MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The male reproductive system is composed of several organs. It is responsible for producing
sperm cells and sex hormones. A sperm cell is important to fertilize an egg cell. Hormones are
responsible for the development of adult male characteristics. Below is the figure of the male
reproductive system with its significant parts and functions.

External Male Genitalia

Penis
The penis is the external male organ with a
tip called glans. It is covered with foreskin
that may be removed through circumcision
and acts as an outlet for urine and semen to
leave the body.

Scrotum
The scrotum is the loose pouch-like sac of
skin that hangs behind the penis. It contains
the testicles (also called testes), as well as

The vas deferens is a long, muscular tube
that serves as passageway of the sperm

connects the testes to the seminal vesicle

B. THE PARTS AND FUNCTION OF

FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The female reproductive system is made up of several organs which include the ovaries,
fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. It is specifically responsible for producing eggs and
supporting a developing baby inside a mother’s womb. The egg cell is only one tenth of a

The labia minora are soft folds of skin that
are rich in sebaceous glands. The
functions of the labia minora are to

Mons Pubis
The mons pubis is formed at the upper
margin of the symphysis pubis and is shaped
like an inverted triangle. It is located over
the two pubic bones of the pelvic. This
structure is composed of fatty tissue lying

MENSTRUAL PHASE.
(FROM THE 1ST DAY TO 5TH DAY OF MENSTRUATION).
This is when a woman experiences her period, characterized by the shedding of the
uterine lining. It usually lasts around 3-7 days.

FOLLICULAR PHASE (DAYS 1-13)

This phase starts with the first day of menstruation and lasts until ovulation. The ovaries
produce follicles each carrying an immature egg. One egg will mature setting off a surge
of estrogen and thickening the lining of the uterus.

OVULATORY PHASE (DAY 14)

14 days before the next menstruation; the most fertile time in the menstrual cycle. It
happens when a mature follicle release an egg. After being released, the egg travels
down the fallopian tube, if it is fertilized the egg implants into the lining of the uterus,

the likelihood of pregnancy.

LUTEAL PHASE (DAYS 15-28)

After ovulation, the ruptured follicle transforms into a structure called the corpus luteum. It
produces progesterone, preparing the uterus for a potential pregnancy. If fertilization
doesn't occur, progesterone levels drop, leading to the start of a new menstrual cycle.

What Will I Learn?

A. TEENAGE PREGNANCY AS THE MOST

IMPORTANT PROBLEM OF TODAY’S SOCIETY

Hey there, fellow teenagers! Today, we're going to delve into a topic that's crucial for all of us
to understand: teenage pregnancy. It's a complex issue that affects individuals, families, and
society as a whole. Let's explore the reasons why teenage pregnancy is considered a
significant concern in today's world.

EXPLAIN THE CAUSES OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY

Early sexual activity is one of the several factors that contribute to the challenging issue of
teenage pregnancy. Teenagers may engage in sexual behavior at a young age for a variety
of reasons.

Here are a few typical causes:

1. Absence of Comprehensive Sex Education: Teenagers who were not able to receive sex
education may not avoid risky behaviors and engage in active sexual practices early or sexual
activities. Teenagers lacking comprehensive sex education can seek reliable information from
trusted adults, such as parents or guardians, can provide valuable guidance and support.
Also, open communication with reputable online sources, such as educational platforms to
empower themselves with accurate knowledge and make informed decisions about sexual
health.
2. Peer Pressure: Teenagers frequently experience peer pressure to participate in sexual
activities. This pressure can cause them to make snap judgments they may not have
completely thought through because they want to fit in or be accepted. By setting clear
personal boundaries, articulating their limitations to friends with confidence, and surrounding
themselves with supportive peers who respect individual decisions, teenagers can avoid
giving in to peer pressure about sexual behaviors.
3. Media Influence: Early sexual interest and experimentation may be influenced by early
exposure to sexual content in the media, including television, movies, and the internet. To
prevent early sexual interest influenced by media exposure, parents and guardians should
actively engage in open communication with their children about sex, provide age-
appropriate sex education, and monitor and restrict access to explicit content. Encouraging
critical thinking about media messages and fostering a healthy understanding of relationships
can help mitigate the impact of media influence on early sexual curiosity.
CALL FOR ACTION:
One of the most important things you, as a teenager, can do to help prevent teenage
pregnancy is to maintain open communication with your parents, teachers, or school guidance
counselor. This is important because these individuals can provide the necessary support and
guidance to help you make smart decisions about your sexual health. It is also important to talk
to these individuals about your feelings of anxiety or depression that may come up during this
time.

Good day, my dearest teenagers! Congratulations. You are now at the third part
of the module. This time, we will discuss how to get out of a unhealthy relationship.

HOW TO GET OUT OF A UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIP

Getting out of an unhealthy relationship can be a challenging and emotional

process, but it is essential for your well-being. Remember, you're not alone in this – we'll
walk together, step by step.

IDENTIFY THE WARNING SIGNS

THINGS TO LEARN!

Recognize the red flags in your relationship, such as lack of trust, disrespect, or
emotional abuse, and acknowledge the need for change. Don’t ignore them.

MAKE A COMMITMENT TO END THE RELATIONSHIP

Be blunt and direct, and put as much distance between you and your partner as
possible. Resist the urge to stay, anticipate a change of heart, and have your things
ready to go. Create a plan of action and hold yourself accountable to follow
through.

SEEK SUPPORT
Reach out to friends, family, adults whom you can trust (teacher and guidance
counselor), or a therapist to help you process your emotions and make informed
decisions about your relationship. Don't be afraid to lean on them – their strength can
help you gather your own.
