Week 9: 1st Quarter

TYPES OF SENTENCES ACCORDING TO USE: DECLARATIVE, INTERROGATIVE,


IMPERATIVE, AND EXCLAMATORY

GRADE AND SECTION: Grade 7 - St. Joseph

Time: 8:00 - 9:00 AM

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a) classify sentences according to use;
b) construct declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences; and
c) show teamwork and cooperation through participating in a group activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


A. TOPIC: Types Of Sentences According To Use: Declarative, Interrogative,
Imperative, And Exclamatory
B. REFERENCES: Grade 7 English Learning Module
C. MATERIALS: PowerPoint Presentation, Laptop, TV or Projector Screen, Handouts
D. VALUES INTEGRATED: Develop collaboration through group activity and
interaction
III. PROCEDURE
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Review of the previous lesson
C. MOTIVATION: Yes, No, Stand up
A. The teacher will introduce a short game called "Yes, No, Stand Up."
B. The students will be instructed that if their answer to a question is "Yes," they should
stand up, and if their answer is "No," they should remain seated.
C. Next, the teacher will ask a series of simple “Yes” or “No” questions to engage the
students. Example questions include:
1. Do you enjoy reading books?
2. Do you own a cat?
3. Do you own a dog?
4. Is 2 + 2 equal to 5?
5. Did you do your assignment?

D. ACTIVITY: You Complete Me!


A. The teacher will divide the class into four groups, and each group will be given
papers with words written on them.
B. The students will be asked to arrange the words in order to form a sentence by
taping the words on the board.
C. The students will be given three minutes to arrange the words.
D. Afterwards, each group will tape their arranged sentence to the board.
E. Each group will choose a representative to read the sentence they arranged to the
class.
F. They will be expected to come up with the following sentences:
1. Philippines is rich with natural resources.
2. When did you visit Boracay?
3. Please hand me the certificate.
4. Help! My house is on fire!
E. ANALYSIS
After the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. What were you able to form out of the words given?
3. How were you able to arrange the words into a sentence?
4. How do these sentences differ from each other?

F. ABSTRACTION
A. The teacher will discuss about the four types of sentences through a
PowerPoint Presentation.
B. The teacher will provide clear explanations and examples of the types of
sentences.
C. The teacher will facilitate questions to maintain classroom engagement.
Types of Sentences According to Use
1. Declarative Sentence – a sentence that expresses a statement, declaration,
fact or opinion; it always ends with a period (.)
Ex. Leah walks to the park.
We need oxygen to survive.
2. Interrogative Sentence – a sentence that expresses a question and ends with a
question mark (?)
Ex. What time will you finish writing your English homework?
Will there be a Christmas party this school year?
3. Imperative Sentence – a sentence that expresses request, direction, order or
command; it may end with a period or question mark.
Ex. Please observe silence.
May I go out?
4. Exclamatory Sentence - a sentence that expresses strong feelings or emotions such
as anger, sorrow, grief, or surprise. It ends with an exclamation mark (!)
Ex. That movie was exciting!
Yehey! I won the grand prize!

G. APPLICATION
A. With the same group, the students will be tasked to perform a short but fun
role play or dialogue that includes using all four types of sentences.
B. With pieces of paper, the teacher will ask the representatives of each group to
pick a random scenario to perform. The given scenarios will be the following:
1. Ordering at a fast food restaurant
2. Adopting a pet at a shelter
3. Planning a surprise birthday party
4. A visit to the doctor’s office
C. The students will be given 10 minutes to plan and prepare their performance.
D. Their performance must not exceed a time limit of two minutes each group.
Rubrics Points
Use of Types of Sentences 15 pts
Teamwork and Cooperation 10 pts
Creativity 5 pts.
Total: 30 pts.

H. GENERALIZATION
The teacher will summarize the lessons learned and ask the questions:

 Is it important to know what type of sentence to use in certain situations?

IV. EVALUATION
Directions: Read each sentence carefully and classify it as declarative, interrogative,
imperative, or exclamatory. On your sheet of paper, copy each sentence and write it
under the appropriate column in the table provided.
1. Please shut the windows and doors.
2. Do you like chocolate pastries?
3. My name is Astrid Gracy.
4. Where are you going?
5. Such a beautiful place!
6. Go and try this new flavour.
7. Today is Monday.
8. Please clean your cupboard today.
9. Turn off all the lights and fans when you leave the room.
10. May I come in?

unforgettable experience. Use at least 4 declarative, 4 imperative, 4 exclamatory and 4
interrogative sentences.

Total: 35 pts.
