Example Legal Report

The DNA profiling test report indicates a 99.999999% probability that John Doe is the biological father of James Doe, based on a comparison of DNA profiles from the alleged father, mother, and child. The analysis examined 15 STR loci and concluded that the results are consistent with paternity. The report also advises testing close male relatives if applicable, as it could affect the validity of the results.

DNA PROFILING TEST REPORT

Alleged Father: John Doe

Name of Mother: Jane Doe

Name of Child: James Doe

ALLEGED FATHER PROBABILITY OF PATERNITY

John Doe 99.999999%

Explanation of Testing
A DNA profile has been produced for each of the samples provided by the above named
individuals. The test performed examines 15 Short Tandem Repeat (STR) loci (sections of
repeat DNA) and the Amelogenin (gender) locus. The DNA seen at each of these STR loci is
compared between the tested individuals. The probability of relationship is calculated by
comparing the DNA profiles obtained to an untested random individual within the general
population assuming a prior probability of 0.5.

Statement
A comparison of the DNA profiles of John Doe and James Doe supports the hypothesis that
John Doe is the biological father of James Doe. Based on testing results obtained from
analysis of the DNA loci listed in the technical data, the probability of paternity is greater
than 99.999999%.

The results obtained are consistent with the above child inheriting markers of the same size
from the alleged father.

In cases where a close male relative of the tested man could be a potential father to the
child it is recommended that where possible any such relative is tested as the result
provided may be invalid in these circumstances. All tests are performed assuming a close
male relative is not a potential father unless this information is provided prior to testing.
