Henry Mintzberg, a management expert, identified ten managerial roles that leaders
perform in organizations. These roles are grouped into three categories: interpersonal,
informational, and decisional roles. Mintzberg’s model helps explain the diverse
responsibilities of managers, showing that their job is not just about planning and
organizing but also about communication, decision-making, and leadership.

2. The Ten Managerial Roles and Their Definitions

A. Interpersonal Roles (Dealing with People)

​ 1.​ Figurehead – Represents the organization in formal and symbolic


duties, such as signing documents, attending ceremonies, and hosting guests.

​ 2.​ Leader – Motivates and guides employees, ensuring they are


productive and working toward company goals.

​ 3.​ Liaison – Acts as a bridge between internal and external contacts,


networking with stakeholders and building relationships.

B. Informational Roles (Handling and Sharing Information)

stay informed about changes affecting the organization.
