COURT

word court, which originally meant
simply an enclosed place, also
denotes the chamber, hall, building, or
other place where judicial
proceedings are held.

• PROBLEM SOLVING COURTS
Courts developed to address domestic violence, drug
abuse, faily matters, mental illness, quality of life, crimes
such as shoplifting and vandalism, and so forth. They all
have service coordination as a core feature of their
operation. Service coordination begins early in the
process, often post-arrest, to determine eligibility for
programs and the need for prompt, specialized services.

• The Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006
(Republic Act No. 9344)
Emphasizes restorative justice for children in conflict
with the law (CICL). It outlines diversion programs,
rehabilitation, and reintegration strategies, with social

• The Family Court Act of 1997 (Republic Act No.
8369)
Mandates the involvement of social workers in
family courts to assist in cases like custody disputes,
adoption, and domestic violence, ensuring the
welfare of children and families.
ROLE OF COURT SOCIAL WORKER
The primary role of a court social worker is
to assist the courts in making decisions
that are in the best interest of the child or
individual involved in a legal case. They
help the courts by conducting social
investigations and assessments, providing
recommendations, and monitoring court
orders to ensure compliance. They also
provide counseling and support services
to individuals and families who are dealing
with legal issues.
ROLE OF COURT SOCIAL WORKER
Court Assessment: Court social workers conduct assessments of
individuals involved in court cases, including children, adults, and families.
These assessments help the court to make informed decisions about
custody, visitation, and other matters related to family law
Counseling and Support: Court social workers provide counseling and
support services to individuals and families who are going through legal
proceedings. They offer emotional support, guidance, and referrals to
other services as needed.
Case Management: Court social workers help to manage the cases of
individuals and families who are involved in the legal system. They work
closely with attorneys, judges, and other professionals to ensure that the
needs of their clients are being met.
ROLE OF COURT SOCIAL WORKER
Advocacy: Court social workers advocate for the rights and best interests
of their clients, particularly those who are vulnerable or marginalized.
They work to ensure that their clients receive fair treatment and access to
resources and services.
Community Outreach: Court social workers also engage in community
outreach and education activities to raise awareness of legal issues and
provide information about available services and resources. They work to
