At the end of the lesson of the students will be able to:
a. Students will be able to identify the basic principles of Arnis, including its historical background
and key movements.
b. Students will demonstrate respect for their peers and the martial art by following instructions and
practicing safely.
c. Students will demonstrate proper grip, stance, and movement with the Arnis stick.

please pick all the pieces on the floor and throw in the
garbage can.

- How are you today? - This day was very challenging to us but very
grateful at the same time, sir!

- So, let us check first your attendance.

Arnis - is one of the oldest systematic martial arts the Filipinos


created. The noble men known as rajahs and maharlikas were
experts in arnis.

However, the game was only pattered to a bladed weapon


which originated in Malay, known as “kali” which means a
large weapon; and derived from” tjakalele” pronounced
/yukalele/, a nature fencing from Indonesia.

As the stick becomes the extension of the hand, the fighting


art becomes known as arnis de mano.

The popularity of arnis was clearly observed trough dialects


in different regions; it is known as panandata.

Modern arnis attracts many people today. It was


grandmaster Ernesto Presas who made arnis an interesting
sport. It is now considered as a Philippine national martial
arts and sports after President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
signed the republic act No. 9850 in 2009.

The Grip

There are different ways of holding a stick, or gripping,


such as the Southern styles, the Northern styles, and the
Central styles.
1. Proper procedure in gripping the stick of the weapon

a. Hold the stick with two hands, holding it at the ends.


b. Thrust the stick upward in front.
c. Release right hand and transfer it to the left side holding
the stick
d. When the wrist becomes flexible, ass speed and power
then follow and try to strike the stick

2. Right measurement of length of the weapon

As discussed, that the length of the stick or cane


Depends on the height and built of the practitioner, but for
the comfort of the beginner, he or she should measure the
length of the arnis stick depending or her arm as suggested
by the experts.

Step 1
 Extend right arm straight downward and straighten
the forefinger.

 Extend right arm to the right side of the body at
shoulder level, then measure the cane

Stance and Posture

Stances are the different body positions to maintain balance and the
proper way of distributing weight on the legs. A practitioner should
learn the proper stance and posture to enable to master arnis skills.
Prowess and stability is essential in order to succeed against the
opponents for arnis is a martial arts of self-defense.

Courtesy Bow

Bow or courtesy means respecting the opponent and the rules and
principles of
the sport.
1. Stand straight with feet at 45 degrees.
2. Hold the sticks with both arms.
3. Bow the head.
4. Extend the right arm sideward with the stick pointing upward.
5. Place the left hand, palm open and fingers extended, on the right
chest.
6. Back to stance.

Different kinds of stances

1. Straddle Stance
 Perform by sliding the left foot
sideward.
 The toe should be pointed
forward.

2. Forward Stance
 Perform by sliding the foot forward.
 The toes should be pointed forward.
 The front leg should be bent while the leg at
the back should be straight.
 It can be performed either using the left foot in
the left forward stance or the right foot in the
right forward stance.

3. Back Leaning Stance


 Put one leg forward and let the toe of forward foot touch the
ground at the same time pivot at the back.
 It can be performed using either the left or the right.

4. Forward Leaning Stance-side Direction


 Perform by sliding the foot to the side bended knee, toss
should be posted sideward.
 The other leg must be straight similar to forward stance but
the direction is different.

5. Forward Leaning Stance Facing the Back


 Perform like in forward stance but the direction of the body
is at the back. However, the eyes should be focused at the
opponent.

6. Cross Stance
• Perform by positioning the other leg forward.

Direction: Identify the different body parts of the human body.

learning different striking techniques in Arnis.

-now let’s proceed to striking techniques in Arnis which will help


you to learn the art of Filipino self defense.

-before we start, I will group you into 3 groups each group will be
given 4 striking techniques in Arnis then you will need to study the
steps, then later on you will perform it in front and we will see if
you done it correct. Is that clear class?

D. Application
- Now you will be group into 4, each group are tasked
to perform the proper execution of 12 striking
techniques in arnis.
- you will be given 10 minutes to practice with your
group then after that you will perform it in front. Is

- Give at least 3 basic striking technique in Arnis
- What are the three-basic stance in Arnis?
- What have you learned about the importance of knowing the
