This study is a qualitative research that delves into the realities of working senior high

school students at Matag-ob Stand Alone Senior High School, examining how juggling work

and academics affects their performance. Many students take on jobs out of financial

necessity, but this often comes at the cost of exhaustion, less study time, and increased stress.

Through a combination of open-ended and closed-ended survey questions and thematic

analysis, this study uncovers how working students struggle to keep up with written works,

performance tasks, and examination results. Despite these hardships, they find ways to adapt

—practicing time management, seeking support from peers, and pushing themselves to stay

on track. Their resilience highlights the need for schools to provide better support systems,

ensuring that employment does not become a barrier to education but a stepping stone toward

their future. This research would not have been possible without the invaluable guidance of

our research adviser, the support of the school administration of Matag-ob Stand Alone

Senior High School, and, most importantly, the working students who bravely shared their

experiences. We also extend our deepest gratitude to our families and friends for their

unwavering encouragement throughout this journey.
