Total serum protein levels in healthy adults range from 6.0 to 8.2 g/100 ml, with fibrinogen increasing this value by an additional 0.2 g/100 ml. Elevated plasma protein levels can indicate dehydration or diseases such as multiple myeloma, which is characterized by the presence of Bence-Jones proteins. The document outlines a procedure for measuring total protein, albumin, and globulin in serum using a Biuret reagent and sodium sulfate.

TOTAL PROTEIN IN PLASMA
The level of total serum proteins found in healthy young and middle-aged adults is 6,0

The diluted plasma or serum is treated with a special Biuret reagent. The colour

PROCEDURE
Transfer 0.5 ml unhaemolyzed serum to a centrifuge tube and add 23% sodium sulfate

tube as a blank.
To each of the four tubes add 4 mi of biuret reagent, followed by 2,5 ml of ether.
Shake vigorously and centrifuge for 5 minutes. By means of a pipette, transfer the
