Checklist for Practicum Planning

Practice-Teaching Lesson Checklist

1. Lesson Structure
☐ Is there a clear objective (or objectives) for the lesson?
☐ Are the lesson stages logically sequenced (e.g., warm-up, presentation, practice,
production, wrap-up)?
☐ Is the pacing realistic for the given time frame/student level?

2. Language Content
☐ Is the target language (vocabulary, grammar, or function) clearly defined?
☐ Are examples context-appropriate?
☐ Do examples include easy to understand (level-appropriate) language?
☐ Are there opportunities for both input (listening/reading) and output
(speaking/writing)?
☐ Do I feel prepared/confident with the form and function of the target language?

3. Learner Engagement
☐ Are interactive and communicative activities included?
☐ Is there a balance of pair, group, and individual work?
☐ Are instructions simple and concise? Are directions broken down into steps?
Are both written and oral instructions included?

4. Inclusivity & Accessibility


☐ Are materials culturally appropriate and respectful of diversity?
☐ Are font sizes, visuals, and slide designs easy to read and follow?
☐ Are accommodations included for learners with different skill levels?

☐ Is there a formative assessment to check understanding?


☐ Is feedback built into the lesson where appropriate?

6. Slide Presentation
☐ Do slides avoid information overload (no more than 6-8 points per slide)?
☐ Are visuals relevant and not distracting?
☐ Is text consistent in size, font, and colour?
☐ Is punctuation used appropriately?
☐ Are slides free of spelling and grammatical errors?

7. Backup & Preparedness


☐ Are materials backed up digitally and/or printed?
☐ Are all tech elements (audio, links, videos) tested and functional?
☐ Have materials been shared in an appropriate time frame for mentor review?
(excluding weekends when possible)

8. Administrative Checkpoints
☐ Have I reviewed the lesson with my mentor teacher?
☐ Have I copied the lesson plan to the practicum coordinators?

9. Personal Development Feedback


☐ Have I taken into consideration previous feedback from my mentor?
☐ Have I included revisions from peer feedback or from my Practicum Supervisor(s)?
☐ Have I received feedback from students in a previous lesson to consider?
