OVERVIEW
The 2.125” PT-X Equalising Blanking Plug is run and strategically positioned in the Blanking Nipple of the Bypass Y-Tool, it prevents re-circulation during ESP operation.
It is a Top No-Go type tool with spring loaded retractable Dogs which lock the Plug into the Blanking Nipple.
The Blanking Plug is normally run using a standard 2” JDS (intermediate core jar down) Pulling Tool, latched onto the 1.375” Running/Pulling Neck of the Blanking Plug.
On installation the Plug is jarred into the Nipple, the Dogs retract as the Plug enters the Nipple and snap out into a 'lock recess' when it shoulders on the No-Go. Straight upward pull verifies the Plug is correctly set. Downward jarring then
releases the Pulling Tool.
On retrieval, the 2” JDS Pulling Tool again engages the 1.375” Running/Pulling Neck of the Blanking Plug, this component is formed with a sleeve which blanks off a set of equalizing ports and is locked using Brass Shear Rod. Upward jarring
shears the Shear Rod to allow equalization of pressure from above
to below the Plug. A further piece of Brass Shear Rod locks a Shear Ring in position to provide a shoulder for the retractable Dogs. Upward jarring additionally shears this Brass Shear Rod to release the Dogs and allow the Plug to be pulled free
from the Nipple.
PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
Ensure Blanking Plug is in good condition, paying particular attention to Fishing Neck and external diameters and has been redressed with new seals, using Redress Kit RD-016410.
The retractable Dogs are supported by a Shear Ring which incorporates Brass Shear Screws. Refer to table to determine the overpull required to pull the plug from the Nipple.
Wireline toolstring is correctly configured (i.e. 2” JDS Pulling Tool, Spang Jar, Stem and Rope Socket).
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
2” JDS Pulling Tool (N.B.: The JDS Pulling Tool is a intermediate core jar down to release tool, should this be required.)
Wireline Stems, Jars and Wireline Centraliser (Recommended)
RUNNING PROCEDURE
1. Make up the 2" JDS Pulling Tool to the wireline toolstring, which should include appropriate stem and jarring tools.
2. Snap the 1.375" Running/Pulling Neck of the Blanking Plug to the 2" JDS Pulling tool (this is the bigger of the two necks). Ensure that the Pulling Tool can be released from the Fishing Neck prior to RIH.
3. Visually inspect all equipment, following the appropriate procedures, to check for damage or unserviceable equipment.
4. Run the Blanking Plug in hole recording run weights and pull weights.
5. The running speed should be reduced as the Blanking Plug reaches the estimated setting depth of the Nipple profile that it is to be landed in.
6. The Blanking Plug should be gently jarred into position and once sufficient jarring has occurred for the No-Go to be reached heavy jarring can be applied to set the Blanking Plug and shear off the 2" JDS Pulling Tool.
500Lbs. max. overpull can be applied to check the Blanking Plug is correctly locked in position.
7. POOH to release the 2" JDS Pulling Tool from the Fishing Neck of the Blanking Plug and return the wireline toolstring to surface using standard wireline procedures.
PULLING PROCEDURE
1. Make up the 2" JDS Pulling Tool to the wireline toolstring, which should include appropriate stem and jarring tools. Use of a Wireline Centraliser directly above the Pulling Tool is recommended for Y-Tool operations.
2. Run the wireline toolstring in hole recording run weights and pull weights.
3. The running speed should be reduced as the wireline toolstring reaches the estimated setting depth of the Nipple profile that the Blanking Plug is landed in.
4. When satisfied that the Pulling Tool has latched the Fishing Neck of the Blanking Plug, an upward jarring (overpull) should be applied in order to shear the Equalising Shear Rod and allow equalisation of pressure from above
to below the Blanking Plug. Wireline operator should determine equalisation time. Refer to table on assembly drawing to determine the overpull required to shear the rod.
5. Once the pressure is equalised, heavier upward jarring will shear the Unset Shear Rod in the Shear Ring and will retract the Dogs inside the Dog Housing allowing the Blanking Plug to be pulled free from the Nipple.
Refer to table on assembly drawing to determine the overpull required to shear the rod.
6. If Blanking Plug does not come free immediately allow reasonable amount of time to equalize.
7. POOH and retrieve Blanking Plug to surface using standard wireline procedures.
