BEESWAX CANDLES
Introduction:
Beeswax candles are naturally aromatic, and has a higher melting point and hence they burn for
longer, and they emit a yellower tone of light and hence allow for a cosier atmosphere. Beeswax
candles also do not release any toxic chemicals into the air, and it can be an alternative to paraffin
made candles.
RECIPE:
Double boiler – hot sauce pan + bowl [sauce pan is filled with water and bowl is kept on top
if it, water level should be reaching the bowl kept on top of the pan]
Beeswax [around 500 grams] -[INR540/kg]
Jars [Rs 15/piece]
Wicks [make sure wicks are self - adhesive if not use a glue gun or put the wick after the wax
is poured] [Veda oils 3inch 100INR/50wicks]
Essential oils for scent- can use citrus scents, cinnamon, peppermint, sandalwood, lavender,
use around 30-50 drops of essential oil in total [INR270/100ml,

Coconut oil [1/2 cup]- [eldia fine coconut oil INR 110/500grams]
Kitchen thermometer [optional] [INR200 on amazon]
Pencil to keep the wick in the middle
PROCESS:
1. Cut beeswax into smaller pieces, now make a double boiler and melt the wax, make sure the
stove is set at medium or high will scorch the wax or make it non usable. It should not be too
hot; it will take around 15-20 minutes to melt properly.
2. Put the wicks in the jars.
3. After it is melted, set it aside, the ideal temperature for the wax should be around 160F.
4. Now add coconut oil and mix.
5. After coconut oil is added add essential oils [for citrus scent 10 drops of lemon, orange and
lime each]
6. Beeswax hardens quickly so be quick with the process, add it to the jars.
7. Use pencils to wrap around the wick of the candle and lay it horizontally over the jar.
8. Do not move your candles when it is melting it will take around 1.5 hours-3 hours to melt.
9. Shelf life is around a year, but the scent of the essential oil may change through time.

Note- containers for beeswax should be glass, make sure the candle container isn’t too big or they
have a wider bottom and a very narrow top, this will make the container blacken as the candle
burns. Containers should be plastic.
Container that should be used should have a wide mouth, be heat safe glass containers, and their
diameter should be less than or equal to 7cm or 3 inches.
Wicks – wicks should be thicker so that the whole candle can be burnt, it should not be too thick or
it will cause cracks down the wax.
Beeswax can be made without adding any essential oil for scent.
Beeswax can be white, yellow, & premium yellow.
Yellow and premium yellow should be preferred.
Target Audience:
The cost of one candle would be around what 1 candle of major brands that mass produce like bathy
and body works, so we should target those people who have the affordability to buy candles at such
prices, so basically middle class and upper middle class. We can market them as alternatives that
would last longer.
