INTRODUCTION
Perception The process by which people select,
organize, interpret, retrieve, and respond to information.
People process information inputs into responses involving
feeling and action. The quality or accuracy of a person's
perceptions has a major impact on responses. Perception
(consciously and unconsciously) involves searching for,
obtaining, and processing information in the mind in an
attempt to make sense of the world

The most

Perceptual
arrangements:
The gestalt
psychologist
believed that
when people
see figures or
hear sounds
they organize
or integrate
them according
to the simplest,
most basic
arrangement
possible. The
following are
the Gestalt
principles of
grouping ,
proximity,
continuity,
similarity and
closure
 Similarity: It
refers to the
tendency to
perceive things
that look
similar as being
part of the same
group. Objects
that have
similar
characterstics
are perceived as
unit
 Proximity:
Objects that are
close together
in space or time
are usually
perceived as
belonging
together
because of a
principle of
grouping called
proximity, Eg
Musical notes
sounded close
together in time
are perceived as
belonging
together in
musical phrases

 Continuity:
The principle of
continuity is
easier to see
than it is to
explain in
words. The
principle of
continuity
means that we
tend to perceive
figures or
objects as
belonging
together if they
appear to form
a continuous
pattern, Eg
When singers
sung or two
instruments
play in
harmony, you
perceive the
notes in the
melody line as
belonging
together, even
if they coverage
on the same
note and then
cross over
 Principle of
closure: The
principle of
closure
attempts to
explain the
tendency to
complete
figures with
gaps in them. If .
you were
listening to
your favorite
song on the
radio &
interference
periodically
interupted it,
you would fill
in the gaps to
perceive the
whole song.

Hallucination:
A sensory

the absence of
any external
sensory
stimulus, an
imaginary
sensetion.
Hallucinations
can be auditory,
visual, tactile,
gustatory and
olfactory
hallucinations
eg: Perceiving a

:- Summary: Perception, Process of registering sensory stimuli as meaningful experience. The

differences between sensation and perception have varied according to how the terms are defined ..
