Lesson breakdown
1. Warm-up (15 mintutes)
Game: Clap and Say
- The teacher calls out a clothing item (e.g., “boots”), and students clap twice while
saying the word loudly to reinforce pronunciation.
- For an added challenge, students must think of a colour to match the clothing word
(e.g., “red boots”).
2. While - speaking (60 minutes)
Vocabulary focus:
Review the vocabulary using flashcards. (boots, coat, dress, glasses, hat, jacket,
jeans, pajamas, pants, ring, shirt, shoes, skirt, sweatshirt, T-shirt, watch)
Practice:
Activity 1: What Am I Wearing?
- Divide class into pairs.
- One student describes what they are wearing without naming the actual items,
like “I am wearing them on my face, and they are black.”
- The partner guesses what the clothing item is (your glasses, in this case).
Grammar Focus:
1. Present progressive to describe what someone is wearing
Review sentence structure
- Teacher writes three example sentences on the board:
“I am wearing a hat.”
“She is wearing a skirt.”
“They are wearing pants.”
- Discuss how the structure works
(Subject + am/is/are + wearing + colour + clothing item)
Practice:
Activity 2: Clothes Memory
- Show students a picture of a person wearing different clothes. Give them 30
seconds to look and remember.
- Hide the picture.
- Ask students to describe what he/she is wearing. For example, “She is wearing
a blue shirt.”
2. Present progressive with Y/N questions
Review sentence structure:
- Write an example:
Question: “Is he wearing a jacket?”
Answer: “Yes, he is.” / “No, he isn’t.”
- Do a quick practice by asking students about what each other is wearing.
Practice:
Activity 3: Fashion detective
- Each pair of student gets sets of a picture of a person wearing different
clothing.
- One student chooses one person in the handout and doesn’t say his/or name.
- The partner asks Y/N questions like “Is he wearing jeans?” or “Is she wearing a
blue T-shirt?”
- The student answers “Yes, he is. / No, he isn’t.”
- Students ask and answer until they guess the correct person. (Is it Alex? - Yes,
he is.)
3. Post- speaking (10 minutes)
Activity 4: Drawing and writing
- Write on the board “I’m at the …”. Ask students where they often go on the
weekends, like zoo, party, home, shopping centre, etc.
- Students have to
+ choose and write one place on the blank.
+ draw their favorite clothing and jewelry that they wear in the chosen place and
colour it.
+ write 4 sentences describing what they are wearing in the picture.
- Give feedback and corrections.
4. Wrap-up and Reflection (5 minutes)
- Students stand in a line.
- The teacher whispers a sentence to the first student (e.g., “He is wearing a
jacket and hat.”).
- They whisper it to the next person until it reaches the last student, who says it
aloud.
- Check if the sentence stayed the same! This reinforces listening skills.
