Lesson Title: Present Simple Tense
Level: A2 Lesson Duration: 3 hours
Lesson Objectives:
- To apply the knowledge about the simple present tense in everyday life.
- To understand how a sentence is formed in the present simple.
- To know vocabulary about daily routines regarding their ages.
Summary of Task / Actions
First part:
- Introductory activity: Mime game (10 min)
Step 1:
The activity proposed by the teacher will be a mime game with the theme of daily routines, so
he will tell the rules of the game to his students, which will be that they cannot speak or move
their lips to try to interpret a word if any student breaks any of these two rules, he will have to
mime another daily routine.
Step 2:
The mimicry game will be carried out through images of daily routines, it being essential for
the subsequent development of the class that each of the students participate in the mimicry
game.
Step 3:
To conclude the mimicry game and explain the topic, the teacher will join the activity,
imitating some daily routines.
- Explanation of the topic: Present Simple Tense (25 min)
Step 1:
The teacher will explain the topic of the present simple using flashcards with images of daily
routines for a twelve-year-old child and with the help of a presentation in Canva he will show
examples of sentences in the present simple with which he will teach how the structure of the
present simple is composed.
Step 2:
As the class progresses, the teacher will ask his students questions on the topic and in the
present simple for them to answer, and depending on the answer, correct feedback can be
given to clarify any doubts.
Step 3:
To conclude the explanation of the topic, the teacher will ask his students if they have
questions about the topic or any general doubts about the language. The teacher in this space
will clarify each of his students' questions.
- Practice Activity: Role-play (25 min)
Step 1:
The activity will consist of a role-play, where students will pair up and create a small
conversation using the present simple and daily routines. The teacher will tell his students
what the activity will consist of and the rule of the game, which is that it cannot be read.
Step 2:
As the groups pass, the teacher will give feedback to each group to improve pronunciation and
the teacher will motivate his students to lose their fear of passing in front of a group.
- Written exercise: Exercise sheets (20 min)
Step 1:
The students will solve a questionnaire brought by the teacher, in which they will find the
topics explained by the teacher. The teacher will be attentive to any questions from his
students about the questionnaire.
Step 2:
Finally, the teacher will give feedback on the difficulties that each one had to improve.
- End of class: (10 min)
To conclude the class, the teacher will give brief feedback on the present simple, answering
each of the students' questions, as if remembering the importance of knowing it in a real
context. In addition to giving some tips on how to study English from home.
Second part:
- Introductory activity: Video (10 min)
Step 1:
To begin with the new topic and to clarify doubts that may have arisen, the teacher will show a
YouTube video with the aim that the topic is understood by all students and is essential for the
development of the next topic.
Step 2:
About the activity proposed for this class, the teacher will ask his students what they
understood about the activity and what doubts and questions they have about it. In addition to
resolving those doubts.
- Explanation of the topic: Do and Does (25 min)
Step 1:
The teacher will explain the new topic to his students, with the help of a canvas presentation,
in addition to using flashcards with images of daily life taking into account the ages of the
students.
Step 2:
As the class progresses, the teacher will ask his students questions both about the topic being
discussed and questions in that verb tense, and depending on the response of one of them,
correct feedback will be due.
Step 3:
To finish the explanation, the teacher will ask his students if any of them have questions about
the topic and the teacher will clarify them.
- Practice Activity: Round table (25 min)
Step 1:
The teacher will begin the practical activity which will consist of the students having a round
table where everyone must create a story, so each one will tell a sentence using the present
simple. There must be an agreement between phrase and phrase.
Step 2:
If any student does not follow the story correctly at the end, they will have to create another
story different from the one the group had already done. At the end of the activity, the teacher
will give feedback on the aspects in which his students should improve.
- Written exercises: Kahoot! (20 min)
The teacher will explain what the grammar activity will consist of, which will be developed in
the Kahoot! quiz application. The questionnaire will have a total of fifteen questions, and as
each question is answered, the teacher will give feedback depending on whether the answer is
correct or incorrect.
- End of class: Feedback (10 min)
To end the class, the teacher will give brief feedback on the topic discussed, in addition to
answering each of his students' questions.
