Personal Statement for Supply Chain Management
My name is Sophia Amechi Austine and I am delighted to pursue a post graduate certificate program in
Supply Chain Management at St. Lawrence College Ontario. I completed my undergraduate degree
program in Political Science (Education). However, over the years, I have worked as a business manager,
an administrative assistant, assistant registrar and currently working as the senior assistant registrar in
my organization.
I have come to realize the importance of exploring further, and in this regard, I have decided to pursue
my higher studies in Supply Chain Management at St Lawrence College Ontario. And interestingly, St.
Lawrence graduate certificate program in Supply Chain Management takes into consideration my
previous academic and professional experience and integrates into all facets of Supply Chain
Management both from a theoretical and practical perspective. More so, the program provides a holistic
understanding of the principles and techniques considered essential for employment in the global
supply chain market. The program curriculum provides opportunity for teamwork, research, data
analysis and presentation. This affords me the forum to enhance my academic skills by applying
concepts, tools and techniques of supply chain and operations in solving work related Problems. It will
equally help me in building a solid professional platform to explore the different career prospects in
Supply Chain Management.
St. Lawrence College Supply Chain Management perfectly aligns with my career goals and future
aspirations. I am impressed that the course curriculum provides a comprehensive perspective to the
multiple of Supply Chain Management roles that are crucial to the success of any organization. Also, it
focuses on hard and soft skills, interactive class activities and presentations. I am eager to explore
courses such as Strategic Sourcing, Data Analysis for Supply Chain Management, Leadership in the
Supply Chain Sector, Supply Chain Risk Management, Data and Financial Management in Supply Chains,
International Logistics, Customs and Regulations, Inventory and Warehouse Management, Sustainability
and Transportation Systems. More so, the program is taught by seasoned professionals with years of
industrial experience and solid knowledge. I am committed to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills
as it is my ambition to aspire to leadership and managerial positions. I have no doubt that a post
graduate certificate program in Supply Chain Management will provide me the requisite knowledge and
skills to enhance my competitive advantage and market outlook in the short and long term.
There is a growing demand for supply chain professionals with the right skillset and experience in the
private and public sectors in Nigeria. The Guardian Newspapers acknowledged that lack of supply chain
talent on the African continent and Nigeria especially, is getting to a crisis stage. This is a clarion call for
me to gain the requisite knowledge, skills and international certification in order to breach this gap.
There is ample career prospect for supply chain professionals.
My professional experience in business and management over the years in connection with my daily
experiences with clients and relevant stakeholders, have elevated my technical knowledge and skills in
business and management. I have assisted my organization in fast-tracking inventory management,
customer service processing time and delivery in its daily operations by applying specific and tactical
strategies. It is my goal to acquire supply chain management related skills through this program in order
to effect critical changes in my organization’s future. Being a member of the Nigerian Institute of
Management (NIM), have afforded me the opportunity to explore and acquire general introduction to
aspects related to management, marketing, supply chain, human resources, finance and accounting.
In conclusion, I am determined and focused on attaining a post graduate certificate program in Supply
Chain Management and at St. Lawrence College. Surely, my academic and professional backgrounds are
solid evidence that I have the potential and resilience to complete my program as scheduled. I am fully
motivated to begin this program as I look forward to becoming an alumni of St. Lawrence College
Ontario. There is no doubt that St. Lawrence College has supportive and seasoned scholars with enviable
track record of successes and achievements in their fields of interest. I can confidently draw inspiration
from these accomplished professionals and academics as I build my professional career. It would equally
be amazing to be absorbed in St. Lawrence College top notch learning facilities and excellent
environment. I remain confident that I am good fit for a graduate certificate program in Supply Chain
