Practical Research 1
Background of the Study
Kuleto et al. (2021) and Ivanashko et al. (2024) discuss the growing role of Artificial
Intelligence (Al) in education, emphasizing its potential to transform learning experiences. The
use of Al in education is becoming more common, especially in high schools. As technology
continues to evolve, it is crucial to understand how it impacts students and their education,
shaping not only their academic performance but also their social development. Exploring the
benefits and challenges of Al in this context can provide valuable insights into how it can be
effectively integrated into learning environments.
One major benefit of AI is that it can help create personalized learning experiences. Rizvi
(2023) explains that AI can adjust lessons to fit each student’s needs, allowing them to learn at
their own speed. This customization helps students stay engaged and understand the material
better. With AI, students can receive instant feedback and resources that cater specifically to their
learning styles. This tailored support can lead to improved academic outcomes and greater
confidence in their abilities.
AI can also help teachers by taking care of routine tasks. Lampou (2023) notes that this
allows teachers to spend more time preparing lessons and connecting with students. By
automating grading and administrative work, teachers can focus on creating engaging lessons
and providing individualized support. This shift can lead to a more effective learning
environment where teachers and students build stronger relationships, enhancing the overall
quality of education.
However, using AI in schools has some challenges. One significant concern is the ethical
issues related to its use. Rizvi (2023) points out the need to think about problems like data
privacy and fairness in AI. Students’ personal information could be at risk if not handled
properly. If these issues are not addressed, the risks of using AI might outweigh its benefits.
Basha (2024) highlights that students might become too dependent on AI tools, which could
weaken their critical thinking and problem-solving skills over time. It’s essential for students to
learn how to think independently rather than relying solely on technology.
Another challenge is that relying too much on AI could reduce face-to-face interactions in
classrooms. Saputra et al. (2023) indicate that this could affect students’ social skills and their
ability to communicate well with others. Building friendships and engaging in group work are
vital parts of the high school experience. Suharyat and Lusiana (2023) emphasize the importance
of maintaining social connections to support students’ overall development. It is crucial to find a
balance between using technology and having personal interactions to ensure a complete
educational experience that fosters both academic and social growth.
While Al offers exciting opportunities for students, it also presents important challenges
that must be addressed. This study looks at the opportunities and challenges that students face
when using Al in their learning. Understanding these issues is essential to make the most of Al
while avoiding its drawbacks. By focusing on student-centered learning, promoting ethical
practices, and encouraging human interaction, schools can create an environment where Al not
only enhances learning but also supports personal development. Finding ways to manage these
challenges will be key to making the best use of Al in education, helping students thrive in a
technology-driven world.
