TECHNO

SLAJD 1
Today, I'm going to talk about TECHNO, THE one of the most influential music genres of the
electronic music scene. It’s not just a music style, but a cultural movement that has
influenced modern dance music and club scenes.

SLAJD 2
Techno is a type of electronic dance music known for its repetitive beats, fast tempo, and
use of synthesizers and drum machines.

SLAJD 3
Techno music was born in the 1980s in Detroit, USA and was created by a group of young
producers who wanted to mix electronic sounds with funk, soul, and futuristic
elements. In the 1990s, techno spread to Europe, particularly to Germany, where Berlin
became a key hub for the genre.

SLAJD 4

In the 1990s, techno became a global movement. As I mentioned before, it spread across
Europe, especially to Germany, where Berlin became the capital of techno culture.
Clubs like Berghain and Tresor in Berlin are world-famous for their techno parties. The city
is known for its strong connection between the music and the party scene."
Techno is also very popular at big music festivals, like Awakenings in the Netherlands, where
people from all over the world meet to dance and have fun.

Rave culture is a music and social movement that revolves around electronic dance music
(EDM) and the celebration of freedom, self-expression, and community.

Rave culture is known for:

● Electronic music: Genres like techno, house, trance, and drum and bass are
commonly played at raves.
● Dancing: People dance for hours to the beat of the music, often in dark spaces with
colorful lights and lasers.
● Fashion: Bright or black and sometimes eccentric clothing, with accessories like
glow sticks, LED outfits
● Positive vibes: The culture emphasizes inclusivity, respect, and the idea of "PLUR"
● Community: Rave culture is about connecting with others through music and shared
experiences, creating a sense of belonging.

Raves can take place in clubs, warehouses and outdoor festivals.

Rave culture has a PLUR rule, but what actually is a PLUR philosophy?
SLAJD 6

PLUR Philosophy:

The rave scene is built around the philosophy of PLUR – Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.
This creates an environment of acceptance, where everyone is welcome regardless of their
background.

DJs play music at parties mixing different songs to keep the crowd dancing.

However, producers make the music in a studio, creating new songs using computers and
electronic instruments from the beginning .

DJs perform the music live, while producers make the music that DJs play.

SLAJD 8

Techno music and rave culture are often wrongly linked with drugs, but this connection is
based on stereotypes rather than the true spirit of the music.

Techno is about the music, community, and self-expression, not about drug use.

The focus of techno events is to create a space where people can enjoy the music, dance,
and connect with others in a safe and positive environment.

While some people may choose to use drugs at any kind of event, it’s important to
understand that the majority of techno fans are there for the music and the experience, not
for substance use.
