Pre-contract work for the contractor

• After a contractor is awarded a contract and the site is handed over to

him/her to commence work, the following must be done before the actual
start of work on site:
• The setting out of the access position using either the site layout plan
or contract drawings that were prepared in the pre-contract period.

• The preparation of a site grid which can be used to locate the position
of the building on the land. The relative position of the building work
can be established from these pegs.

INTRODUCTION
Definitions
Site organization is a detailed and well thought out process
which ensures a healthy and safe construction site
throughout its build
An organized construction site establishing a well co-
ordination system among different parts, and performing a
good site layout planning.
✓ Increases safety,
✓ Enhances productivity,
✓ boosts profits
Site organization

Site organization In general, involves many tasks, such as

site investigation before construction process starts,
material delivery and procurement management,
keeping better site records,
keeping good site communication and high level
of information flow,
monitoring performance regularly,
IMPORTANCE OF SITE ORGANISATION IN
CONSTRUCTION
Many companies today are c omplex systems that require
more than ad hoc design and management.

• Minimizing hazards for workers and visitors

• Barrier c ontrol
• risk- minimization
• Effec tive site c ommunic ation
• Construc tion effic ienc y
Literatures Review
Poor site organization and poor environment play major roles in project delay,
Ayman 2018,concluded, it is important to identify the key success factor in
conjunction with the client and establish key performance indicators in the form of
milestones that will calculate the success for achieving the project scope.
Raymond 2013,opined that Poor communication is a very common problem in
construction projects and its impacts can’t be understated as it affects the project
success. Most problems that occur within the construction industry are linked to be
caused by poor communication

Site planning
A detailed planning of the site layout and
location of temporary facilities can
enable the management to make
considerable improvement by
minimizing travel time, waiting time,
and increasing worker morale
by showing better and safer
work environment
The Problem
Failure to plan the site layout in advanc e
is a prime c ause of operational
inefficiency, and can increase the overall
c ost of a projec t substantially.
In the absenc e of a prec ise
site layout plan, the following
problems may occur.

❑ Material stac ks wrongly located

❑ Plant and equipment wrongly located
❑ Inadequate spac e allowed
❑ Site huts wrongly located in relation
to their effec tive use

HOW TO IMPROVE SITE ORGANISATION
USING CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Construction technology as "the collection
of innovative tools, mac hinery,
modifications, software, etc.
Technology has made construction sites
safer and workers more efficient. It has
allowed us to increase productivity,
improve c ollaboration, and tac kle more
complex projects.
❑ Site Sensors - temperature, noise levels,
dust particulates, and volatile organic
c ompounds to help limit exposure to
workers.

USING CON STRUCTION TECHNOLOGY

❑ Drones –
Drones c an be used to quic kly
c onduct jobsite inspections and
identify potential hazards each day.
They c an also be used to monitor
workers throughout the day to ensure
everyone is working safely. Drones
are being used to take photos of as
work progresses to c reate as-built
models of jobsites to keep everyone
informed of the c hanging work

❑ BIM –
Building Information Modeling
(BIM) is a process that
incorporates digital
representations of buildings in
3D models to facilitate better
collaboration among all
stakeholders on a project. This
