▪ Description of Otemachi Station

0067 and this place is used as a tram station. Near this station, two bus stops can
be used by people who want to go to Otemachi Station or another place that
can’t be reached by the tram. There is also an inner-city tram that is located near
Otemachi Station.

For bus stops, there is one that is located near the Otemachi Station and the
other one is in front of the Otemachi Station, so we need to use zebra cross if
we want to go to that bus stop.

Access to Otemachi Station is very easy because people who go walking already
have a wide sidewalk. If there are bicycles that also use the sidewalk, pedestrians
can still feel safe because it is wide enough for pedestrians and cyclists. Also, this
station has a clear sign in front of the station even foreigners can see it easily.
People who want to go to this station after getting off the bus or the tram can
use the zebra cross to access Otemachi Station. Other than that, someone who
uses a taxi to go to this station can be dropped off in front of the station because

can improve this station. In my opinion, we need to know about the uses of this
station for people who live in Matsuyama. There are some points that I need to
know if I want to know more about this station.

From this question, I can know how crowded this station and it can be
considered whether this station needs to be enlarged or not. We also can
improve the waiting area if there are a lot of people that use this station every
day. The waiting area can be a convenience store or a room that can be used
for sitting or eating.

2. How many people use the bus after dropping off at the station or going to
this station?
From this question, we can consider increasing bus schedules or reducing
them. And if there are so many people using the bus stop in front of the
station, it can be considered if we need to make a crossing bridge or not to
reduce congestion. Also, we can improve the waiting area at the bus stop if
needed.

3. How many people use the inner-city tram after dropping off from the station
or going to this station?
From this question, we can consider increasing inner-city tram schedules or
reducing them. And if there are a lot of people using the inner-city tram, we
can improve the waiting area at the inner-city tram stop.

From this question, we can see if the sidewalk is helpful for people if they
want to go to this station. And we need to always maintain it and improve it
if it is helpful.
5. How many people use bicycles to go to this station?
From this question, we can see whether consider to building a bicycle parking
area or not. Because it will be difficult for people who use bicycles if there is
no bicycle parking area. And as we know, it’s common for people in
Matsuyama to use bicycles for their daily lives.
6. How many people use motorcycles to go to this station?
From this question, we need to consider whether we need to build a
motorcycle parking area or not. And if it is not necessary, we can provide
information about how people can’t use motorcycles if they want to go to this
station because there is no motorcycle parking area.
7. How many people use taxis to go to this station?
From this question, we can consider improving this station by making drop
off area, but if it is only necessary. As we know, more people go by walking
or using bicycles instead of using taxis, but there is still the possibility that
many people use taxis.

From this question, we can consider building the car parking area or not,
maybe even only a few people that using a car to go to this station we still
need to consider it.
After I know about those points, I can decide what needs to be made or improved
from this station. And then we also consider how much cost we need to make
this station even greater.
▪ Survey Method
For doing this survey, I need to use some methods to get detailed information
that I want to know in the survey plan point. These are methods that I am going
to use to get the information.
1. Searching Data from The Internet or any Resources.
These are the general things that we need to do if we want to do a survey.
Maybe there will be some data that I want to search for in this survey.
- Population Growth Data around Otemachi Station or in Matsuyama City
From this data, we can see how many people will use public
transportation. If the population is small, then the people who will use
public transportation are also small. However, if the population is large,
many people will likely use public transportation.
- Data on How Many People Use Otemachi Station
From this data, we can see how we can improve the station. As I said
before we can improve the waiting area or make a convenience store if
there are a lot of people that using the station. And for the data maybe I
try to see it on the internet or ask the staff that work in Otemachi Station.
- Data on Public Satisfaction with Public Transportation in Matsuyama
From this data, we can know criticism and feedback from the community
so we can improve the Otemachi Station. And for this data, I’ll try to
search the data from the internet.
2. Traffic Counting
This method I use to see how many vehicles that passed Otemachi Station
and stopped at Otemachi Station. And we can see traffic in this area so we
can analyze what causes the traffic jams in this area. Because there are bus
stops and inner-city tram stops in this area. Also, there is the road that is
used by vehicles. So, it will be complicated, and we need to analyze that.
Maybe we can improve the traffic or the transportation in this area to reduce
traffic jams.
3. Direct Survey
After I tried the first method, there was the possibility that I couldn’t get
enough information, so I needed to go to Otemachi Station and see it in
person. I will analysis about this station like when is peak time, and what
difficulties that maybe a lot of people face in this station, and I will decide
another thing I need to do with this method after I get difficulties getting
data in the first point. After I do this method, maybe there will be another
data that I want to search again to complete the information.
4. Interview
If necessary and possible, the interview can be used to get other information.
The people I am likely to interview are staff who work in Otemachi Station.
Because they are the people who know about Otemachi Station, how many
people use this station, what time is the peak time of this station, what are
the most visited destinations, and other questions that can complete the
information that I needed.
Those are methods that I will use for the survey plan for improving Otemachi
Station. Maybe there will be changes to the method if I face difficulties or if there
is another thing that I need to know. But for now, I will use those methods for
the survey plan.
