• Hypothalamus

-is the small region of the brain, it is

located at the base of the brain near
the pituitary gland.
-links the nervous and endocrine
systems by way of pituitary glands.
• Hypothalamus
Functions
• Hormones produced by Hypothalamus
• Hormones produced by Hypothalamus
• Hormones produced by Hypothalamus
• Pituitary Gland

-is a small pea-sized gland and

referred to as the Master gland
because it controls activity of
most other hormone-secreting
glands
• Pituitary Gland
Functions
• Hormones produced by Pituitary Gland
• Hormones produced by Pituitary Gland
• Pineal Gland
- is also called the pineal body,
is in middle of the brain.
- It secrets melatonin that may
help regulate when you sleep at ni
ght and when you wake in the mor
ning
• Thyroid Gland

-is in the front part of the lower neck

- shape like a bowtie or butterfly
- uses iodine from food to make two
thyroid hormones: TriIodothyronine
(T3) and Thyroxine (T4).
• Thyroid Gland
- Regulate the rate at which calories are
burned

- Can slow down or speed up the heartbeat.

- Can raise or lower body temperature

• Thyroid Gland

- Influence the rate at which food moves

through the digestive tract.

- Control the way muscles contracts

- Control the rate at which dying cells

are replaced.
• Hormones produced by Thyroid Gland

Calcitonin is a hormone that is

produces in humans by the C-cells
of the thyroid gland.
- Calcitonin is involved in helping
to regulate levels of calcium and
phosphate in the blood, opposing
the action of parathyroid hormone.
• Parathyroid Gland
-Attached to the thyroid gland are f
our tiny glands that work together
called parathyroid glands.
• Hormones produced by Parathyroid Gland

-They release parathyroid hor

mones or Parathormone which
controls the level of calcium in
the blood with help of calcitonin
which the thyroid makes.
• Pancreas
The pancreas has two main functions:

• An exocrine function that helps in

digestion

• An endocrine function that regulates

blood sugar.
• Hormones produced by Pancreas
INSULIN
-lowers glucose levels in the bloodstrea
m and promote the storage of glucose in
fat, muscle, liver and other body tissues.
GLUCAGON
• It’s role in the body is to prevent blood glucose levels
dropping too low.
• To do this it stimulates the conversion of stored
glycogen in the liver to glucose, which can be
released into the bloodstream.
• Adrenal Glands

-These two triangular adrenal

glands sit on top of each kidney

-have two parts each of which

makes a set of hormones and has
a different function.
• Adrenal Glands
Adrenal Cortex –outer part
It makes hormones called corticosteroids
that help control:
-salt and water
-the body’s response to stress
-metabolism
-the immune system
-sexual development and function
• Adrenal Glands
Adrenal medulla –inner part
-It makes hormones called
adrenaline or epinephrine that
increases blood pressure and heart
rate when the body is under stress.
• Reproductive Glands
Testes Ovaries
• Male Gonads: Testes
The testes or testicles are pair of sperm-
producing organs that maintain the health
of the male reproductive.
TESTOSTERONE
• Female Gonads: Ovaries
The ovaries make egg cells and secrete
the female hormones estrogen and
progesterone.
