4 Days After Catholic Priest Dies with Girlfriend in
Hotel, Parish Organizes Requiem Program for Him.
A requiem mass will be held at a parish of the Catholic Church for the priest
who passed away in the hotel room he shared with his girlfriend.
Before his passing, Father Joseph Kariuki, also known as Father Karis, 43,
ministered at the Catholic Church in Ruai, Kenya. His parish has announced
that his requiem masses would be held in the St. Peter’s Parish in Ruai today
and at the St. John the Baptist Parish in Mangu tomorrow, both beginning at
2:00 p.m.
According to the news that was gathered from Nairobi News, the event
would progress to a funeral mass that was scheduled to take place on the
grounds of St. Mary’s Msongari beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the morning
before he was laid to rest on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Clergy Cemetery.
Despite this, the passing of Father Karuiki has garnered a lot of attention and
a variety of opinions as a result of the fact that he was said to have died
following a night out at a guest housed with his girlfriend of six years, who
was 32 at the time.
He travelled to Muranga County in order to spend quality time with his
girlfriend, Ruth Karanja, who is 32 years old, at their favourite hangout,
which is where they had frequently gotten together over the course of the
previous two years
It was stated that he had a nice time on the evening of the previous Friday,
when he spent Sh 6,000 on food and alcohol and had a good time. However,
he passed away unexpectedly early on Saturday morning due to unknown
cause of his death.
According to detective in Nairobi, a 43 years old priest suddenly started
experiencing dizziness while with his girlfriend inside the hotel room. It was
stated that the lady later contacted the hotel management to inform them
about the situation and seek their assistance in taking the Priest to the
Hospital.
The police report stated that the deceased was immediately rushed to Kenol
Hospital in Muang’a in his vehicle, but was pronounced dead by the Doctor
immediately after they got to the hospital
The security agency disclosed that an investigation to unrevealed what led to
the sudden death has begun because his demise looks suspicious.
The police report read in part, “One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku aged 43yrs old,
a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer at Mangu area
checked in at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to
be his colleague at the workplace in Ruai”.
Then this morning (Saturday) at around 0800hrs, the priest’s girlfriend
notified the hotel management that the boyfriend was dizzy and getting
unconscious so that they could rush him to the hospital. They then rushed
him to Kenol Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
