Jeepneys: King of the Philippine Roads

Base from the title, did you know that Jeepney is sometimes referred to as the
“King of the Philippine roads.” Did you also know that jeepneys have been operating in the
country since 1940’s? Lastly, did you also know that they are planning to phase-out jeepneys
soon? A short discussion about jeepneys are as follows.
Jeepneys sometimes called jeeps, are minibus-like public utility vehicles, serving as
the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They are known for their
crowded seating and decorations, which have become a widespread symbol of Philippine
culture and art. The jeepney is the cheapest way to commute in the Philippines. They marked
a legacy in the Philippine history regarding the evolution of vehicles. They are a proudly
created by the Filipinos inspired by the American colonization.
Jeepneys has always been our way of transportation. Cheap fares, convenient, and
lesser traffic jams are just most of the reasons why jeepneys are being loved by a lot of
Filipinos. You might be wondering if why this is the content of this essay. Well, simply
because news about jeepney phase-out spreads like a wildfire all around the country. This
might be a perfect opportunity to hear out what are the thoughts of all regarding its phase-out.
It has been a controversial issue for all the people who are riding jeepney as their
transportation to where they are supposed to go. You might also think the same. You might
think and ask yourself, “why would they phase-out jeepneys when it is one of the most
reliable and convenient way of transportation?”. Humas really have the smartest and wises
ways of thinking. There are a lot of things that is needed to improve but they thought about
this kind of thing as their target. There are a lot of things that needed development but, we
don’t know when. Looking through different articles regarding the jeepney phase-out,
different perspective has been shown and shared. Some may agree, and mostly they disagree.
There are a lot of reasons why they should now continue this phase-outing.
The phase-outing was due until the last day of June. The expenses will be shouldered
by the driver, the owner of the vehicle. Just the two of the reasons why they should phase-out
jeepney feels this feels heavy. Just by looking at it, you can feel that it would really be a hard
process. Imagine the feelings of the jeepney drivers, think of it as if it was their only way of
living, the one they depend on. And this news came to them like a stab in their heart. The
remarkable jeepney, the thing that keeps them moving on will soon be vanished.
Also, other countries love our jeepneys, its unique style and many more. As a student,
I may not be wise as others but I know how to think and act. This issue should be raised until
the end. Governments should consider this as their topic until due time to prevent it from
phase-outing. People, especially the drivers will be devastated. We should stand the quote
that is being attached to us. We are the hope of our future, we should raise our voice and be
heard. How about you? What do you feel about this topic?
